Rise of BJP in J&K worrying sign: Azad

Srinagar Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief minister Gulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said the "rise" of BJP in the state was a worrying sign.

"It does worry me. These trends are the outcome of unfortunate things happened in July and August. The question is that secularism is getting shrunk at the cost of development," Azad said, adding that it should be "a worry for each and every Indian."

"The rise of BJP in the border state which is facing terrorism is a worrying factor for the entire country," he said.

"Their only vision is to create communal tension among the people," Azad said. "They are being rejected across the country because of their communalism."

In an apparent reference to the problems faced by Congress in its alliance with PDP, Azad said past experience would be taken into consideration while deciding the alliance partner.

He refused to comment about any alliance possibility saying that it shall be decided at the highest level by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

When asked about his personal choice, the leader said that he would choose a party whose national and secular credentials are known.

On the Amarnath land row, he said it was never a win-win situation for the Congress.

"If we had withdrawn (the order of land allotment) one region would have erupted and if we had not the other region would have. It is difficult to take a decision keeping all the three regions in mind," Azad, who was the chief minister when the row erupted this year, said.

Echoing the view of Azad, Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chavan too blamed the Amarnath land row for the dismal performance of the Congress in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

He said if land row had not erupted, the party would have swept the polls.

"It (hung assembly) was expected after the Amarnath land row. If land row had not happened, we would have swept the polls," he said.

"There is emotional anger but it does not reflect the reality," he said.

worry is gulam nabi azad by 2borbnot2b on 28 Dec 2008

the worrying sign, to my shock, are the comments made by Azad. Losers in high school election will have more grace that this so called seasoned politician. Worry is his divisive comments and divisive nature of the congress... A fool and stupid person like Azad should be taught more lessons by the public. If someone does not vote for him, it a worrying sign for the whole country? This is height of narcissism. BJP is the only secular party in this country. All others throw sops to minorities to get votes. Minorities that vote for them should stop and think they are being used as pawns in the hands of Azad and his party. Azad treated people badly, so they did not vote for him. Period.

Congress and secularism by Hemant on 28 Dec 2008

I think wounds from Antulay are still fresh. Mr. Azad can you wait for a while to display your secular credential. More worrying is winning of Mufti and Mahboba ( Their ministers were found sheltering terrorist). It was Mufti's daughter's kidnap and release of terrorist which start the current problem in Kashmire. Conggress and NC had many time sided with Pakistan and if they win all the seat they will be encouraged. We saw Mr. Azad'd secular credential during Amarnath issue so please shut up now. If it was not for congress J

bjp rise by patriot on 28 Dec 2008

we are proud of bjp's rise. Mr. AZAD is wrong. what he expect that he wants terrorists should on rise. we have seen so much of terrorists. we want to live in peace. People has given their verdict it should be respected in total. BJP is nationalist patriotic party. Hindus should be give due representation in the ministry. The BJP is going to rule in next general elections without fail.

BJP cannot win by Sharma on 28 Dec 2008

Dear All, BJP cannot win anywhere by proofing their good deeds except provoking Hindus because their motto is not progress of the country but makes communal riots.

azad's (sick) statement on secularism by v.vishwanathan on 28 Dec 2008

Mr Azad, it is the Congress party which is communal as it plays vote bank politics and caste politics since the first election after Independance. We were fooled then but not now. His memory appears to be short, let us remind him that in MP and Chattisgarh BJP has formed the govt and in Rajasthan it has got good no of seats. He lost elections in Maharashtra from Muslim dominated areas. Congress identifies Muslims as Muslims first and then as Indians whereas BJP identifies Muslims as Indians and then their religion. One should infer as to who is secular Congress or BJP. Enough fooling has been done, let us do away with the Congress which sheds crocodile tears for blast victims but does not have the conscience to punish Afzal and other Muslims who are involved.

Utter crap by Azad by Sumanyu on 28 Dec 2008

Who is Ghulam Nabi Azad to talk of communalism. What was he and his party doing when 4 lakh Kashmiri Pandits were driven out of Kashmir by the militants. If this was not communal then what was it. All so called secularists of this country are wearing bangles and afraid to broach this issue in the media. The media is also conveniently silent. Ghulam Nabi Azad should be ashemed of talking such utter crap in such a brazen manner. Bloody third grade politician.

Gulam Nabi is a failed leader by GK on 28 Dec 2008

BJP win is a win for Nationalist forces. Goolam Nabi has already done goolami of Sonia now he should take political Sanyas as he is a failed leader.

Azad''s concern by Venkat on 28 Dec 2008

The INC only believes in democracy when they win. When BJP wins by a democratic process it becomes worrisome for INC and Azad,Azad also says BJP is loosing every where else.Which world he is.The congress has lost every elections in the last 2 yesrs. The recent success in Delhi and Rajasthan does not speak of their popularity since BJP's percentage votes are higher in both States. Let Azad anfd INC gracefully accept the public verdict. It is time for BJP to fight the lok sabha elections in the plank of true Secularism where every citizen will be considered as equal and part of the majority without any discrimination.Who has been the inventor of the divisive politcs in India. It was the INC and if some party is fighting back they are considered as communalists. How long INC and the pseudo secularists will fool the now enlightened citizens of the country? All parties who divide the Hindu votes are considered secularists and who consolidate them are considered Communalists. This is the truth.

Rise of BJP in J by Shivane Gowda on 28 Dec 2008

After getting defeated Mr. Azad is telling it is worrysign about the BJP win. Who is he to question about the people verdict. His personal opinion should be limited to himself. Actually these are the elements who are creating the rift. People have given the mandate and it is the duty and responsibility of every so called politician to respect the people verdict. By naming the BJP as a communical these are the real people who are creating the communal rift among the people. What Mr. Azad want to spread among the people, Indirectly he is provocating the one type of community to go against the other community. If the same thing done by BJP it is termed as communal and if the same thing is done by Congress or any other party it is termed as national unity.what is this illusion. If Azad is correct in his assertion then you know what will happen in the forthcoming central election, I think one can predict. THE WHOLE INDIA IS INTEGRATED WITH THE COMPLETION OF THIS ELECTION

Some people have fears of good and virtue--- by romesh.sharma on 28 Dec 2008

How foolish and unpatriotic this man,GN Azad, can be one can very well understand from his antipathy and hate against BJP which automatically speaks of Hindus. Why should it be a worrying factor for Entire country?J

Azad Kashmir elections by D.A.Eswar on 28 Dec 2008

Azad should know he triggered problem created by Amarnath and encouraged seperatist forces. Voters should have rejected Congress and PDP. In the name of secularism they are cheating Voters and even Congress supports seperatists. It is fortunate atleast some Voters have realised and voted for BJP undestanding games plyaed by Congress and Azad.

bulshit, bjp nt playing communal its the crucked cong which played it since beginning. b4 indep 1 side people like bhagat singh and SC bose were fighting british otherside cong was shaking hands and making treaties just to ling to power.Hinduism has shrunk in few centuries and has been abused centuries by dirty desert islamics. when country was being divided on a ideology why was it not completed or else why was it done, just for power dirty nehru and jinna wanted power. after division why was caste included in govt records when it was free country.Bjp is not against muslims they want hinduism to be our soul, let the muslims and christians follow their religion but follow 'uniform code of conduct'. Hinduism is our culture than religion, RSS(BJP) is only hope at political level to make hindus live for ever.muslims have grown 4 times since indep, its nt away when they are majority and make islamic.frnds join uniting bharat frm lanka to kandahar, combodia 2 baluchistan, bring back glory

JK VERDICT by harun on 28 Dec 2008

atlast the people of our country are gradually seeing the BJPs game through. All that BJP can do is thrive on dividing people and have nothing else to offer. Its for the so called cosmo crowd to shed there blatant communal ideas.ITs becoming more obvious that the AAM AADMI has respect for the constitution and human rights rather than just giving lip sympathy to uphold democratic values as the elite do.The people of jammu who had been incited and supported by elements who do not beleive in plurisy. The bjp has been put in its place. The hurriyat has lost credibility they were mis leading the innocent kashmiris to a eternal doom.pakistan.The government which takes office must work to facilitate the benefits of funds given by the centre are used to improve the state.Atleast now the people who idiolize the bals and modis after delhi and rajasthan must understand that its INDIA that must thrive and not those who want to destroy the country.BJP is doing precisely what TALIBAN is.

BJP's Victory in J by Shashi Panikar on 28 Dec 2008

It is shocking to read the statement of Mr Azad about the BJP winning a few seats in Kashmir. He has described it as worrisome trend..Iam no grat fan of BJP, but when s senior leader of a so called "secular party " maked such a statement, we are forced to react. Mr Azad you had no problems when majority Kashmiris refuse to accept Kashmir as a part of India? Most of your leaders donot accept J

False conclusion by Harry on 28 Dec 2008

Of course it must be worrying for you Mr Azad. Your vote bank politics wont work anymore in Jammu. If you think it's a one way traffic, you are wrong. You have created a division in J

AZAD Shut your mouth pls by Ranjith on 28 Dec 2008

I blieve Mr Azad wants to distribut the communal harmonay by giving such an stupidity statments.

Silly statement by Lakshman on 28 Dec 2008

Azad is just bluffing... what he mean by BJP growing in the border state ? When he was ruling the state, was terrorisim under control ? Immatured statement by a senior politician.. does not convey any message except his fear of cong. party losing the ground in J

This is even more divisive by Senthil on 28 Dec 2008

I am not a great fan of the BJP.. Just because you lost a couple of seats in the constituency you start worrying about the mind set of the people?? Let me tell you something sir.. In democracy, you should possibly sit back and see what you did wrong to loose the vote.. Obviously the sentiments of the people in Jammu have been hurt and people have expressed it in the voting there.. (And not just Hindus going by any report which the media has published.).. So it would be in your interest that you start understanding the feelings of the people before you start blaming the people for voting a different for a different party..

Psedo secular congress is a danger to the coutries security and secularism. by Ayyappa on 28 Dec 2008

BJP is a party which ruled this country for one term very well. Who is Gulam Nabhi Azad to tell us rise of BJP is worrisome? May be for him worring, as he will loose power. As a Hindu the power weild by Christians and Muslims and all sundry religions except Hindus are worrying for me. The rise of these communal forrces and the tacit alliance by the pseudo seculars in dividing the country along communal line is more worrying. The way the Hindu minority is eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir is a cause of shame. That points to the double standard followed by the so called secular national parties. It is high time the Hindus of this land unite to oust all these non Hindus out of leadership.

UPA IS DANGEROUS by Anand Kumar on 28 Dec 2008

It is not the rise of BJP in Jammu that is worrying, but rather the prospect of the return of UPA in the general elections that is MOST WORRISOME. If UPA returns then even God cannot save India.

Secular Concern by Viswnadh on 28 Dec 2008

BJP's victory in any state in INDIA is a worrysome affair for Congress. Congress wins on the plank of SECULARISM! BJP wins on the basis of COMMUNALISM!! At least this is what the Congis want us to believe. A true nationalist should understand the rise of BJP in a sensitive area such as Kashmir as a positive development and some kind of a deterrent, against the separatist forces. Unless the Indians clearly distinguish secularism from appeasement of minorities, there will be INTERNAL SECURITY PROBLEMS for us. Minorities are one among us - they have no rights more and no rights less. These secularists should concentrate better on educating those masses and not raise their false and cheap expectations by giving senseless statements such as - they have the first claim on INDIA's resources" How is this statement different from some one's statement - INDIA is for Hindus first!!"

no need to worry. bjp cannot be rise anywhere by real bharatiya on 28 Dec 2008

Mr. Ghulam Nabi, no need to worry. We should accept challenges in fighting communalism
