BEIJING: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said India and China can help dislodge the West as the centre of global economic gravity if they avoid confrontation and forge a closer partnership.Singh, who was addressing the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the two countries could come together by following what he called the 'Asian Way'. "We will do it the Asian Way - avoiding confrontation and building trust, confidence and consensus. It is only in an environment of peace that prosperity in Asia can be sustained. India and China have an important role to play in building peace, security and stability in the region," he said.The Prime Minister seemed to suggest that India and China should jointly consider the possible impact of recent developments in Pakistan.He did not name Pakistan but said: "Recent developments in our neighborhood have brought home to us again the imperative need to collectively fight terrorism and extremism in all forms. As large and diverse societies, we are well placed to demonstrate the benefits of moderation and peaceful co-existence."Singh said China should commit to keeping populated areas out of any settlement of the border dispute. He repeated his theme for the democratization of world bodies like UN Security Council, saying that there was too much at stake for the two countries to remain mired in old disputes."We are at an exciting point in history when the centre of gravity of the world economy is moving towards Asia," he said.The world economy could largely be about Asia in the 21st century just as it was all about western nations in the 20th century, he said."When countries of the size of China and India, together accounting for 2.5 billion people, begin to unshackle their creative energies, it impacts the whole world. The world knows it and is watching with interest," the Prime Minister said.Singh said that the greatest danger to development comes from extremism of all types, whether in the garb of religion or on the pretext of righting historical wrongs.Talking about the Strategic and Cooperative Partnership for Peace and Prosperity that was established by the two nations in 2005, Singh said: "We recognize the obligation to put behind us disputes and problems that have troubled our relations in the past". India-China relations influence global and regional trends, he added.India was keen to learn from China's success in creating physical infrastructure and devising strategies to provide productive employment outside the agriculture sector and poverty alleviation, Singh said. Some of the areas of potential cooperation between the two countries are science and technology, public health, education, institution building, water resources management and disaster management, he added.Singh said Indians admired China’s remarkable economic progress. "As China's largest neighbour and a friend, we cannot remain untouched by this momentous process," he added.This PM is arrogant.West is responsible for our prosperity.Without IT and US support to us we will be no where .I wonder why IE never reported this!!!!

It is surprising Indian leadership get happy even when a Chinese leader smiles at him. Chinese would extract maximum benefit from India and promise imaginary benefit in return and would act to disadvantage of India at every possible opportunity at international level.

It is strange that the Chinese President congratulates Indian PM for his successful visit. Succesful for whom is the question? The foreign minister says that India should not bother about the chinese intrusions and justifies such intrusions himself on the basis of different perceptions of the LAC by the two countries!! Will the chinese have a similar explanation if Indian troops intrude into the territory perceived by the chinese as their own? Basically Mr Mukerjee in his anxiety to please the chinese at the expense of India's teritorial integrity made a statement that has not been adequately criticized by our incompetent and sychophant English media. Mr Mukerjee and Mr Man Mohan Singh may be answerable to the nation one day for this light hearted donation of Indian territory to the chinese to showcase his visit as a success!! What an incompetent and spineless government is this at the Center?

It is hoped that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh keeps China's past treachery in mind while accepting their compliments and the so-called goodwill gestures. China has all along been chackmating India in the arena of multilateral diplomacy and continuing with its claims on Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and parts of Bhutan. Our Foreign Minister accepted the fact of Chinese intrusions into Indian territory. Given these facts are we under any compulsion to talk goody goody and in return get/expect nothing.

I think the Indian TV news culture is rubbing on Indian Newspapers or at las on Times of India. Tine and time again, we have noticed that instead of news, Times of India is expressing its own or reporters opinions. Take this article? Has PM really said China and India can "dislodge" west as economic center? What does that mean?? Has India become good enough? Do we know how much economic and educational divide is there? Just increasing no of middle class does not make a nation developed? What has happened to the slums, roads, health system for people in villages and friable areas? What has happened to corruption? Has it increased or eliminated? China is far developed than India in all respects. We need to look inward and improve ourselves rather than comparing with others, unless you just want to play upon the emotional aspects/ Dislodging someone does not make you better. What a language. A self development is a need of nation.
