Kolkata, June 16 The two IPS officers who had allegedly threatened Rizwanur Rehman before his death found their names missing from the latest promotion list issued on Monday.

Former Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters), Gyanwant Singh and Deputy Commissioner (detective department) Ajay Kumar were earlier removed form their posts after their names cropped up in the case. In the latest promotion list of 29 IPS officers, batch mates of Singh and Kumar were, however, given promotions and better postings.

Two other 1993-batch IPS officers, Pijush Pandey and Parveen Kumar , who are serving as Superintendent of Police in Burdwan and South 24 Parganas, have been promoted to DIG rank. While Pande has been made DIG, Murshibad range, Parveen Kumar will now be the new DIG of Midnapore range.

There was mixed feeling among the colleagues of Gyanwant Singh and Ajay Kumar over this. Some said that the two controversial officers should have been given their due promotions.

The new SP of Bankura will be the present DC (DD II) of Kolkata police, Vishal Garg. The DC (Central) of Kolkata police, Ajay Ranade will be the new SP of South 24 Parganas. Kuldeep Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, Kolkata will be the new Inspector General of western range and Zulfikar Hassan will be the Special IG of Jalpaiguri.
