Kolkata, February 28 An underlying sense of disappointment enveloped the Tiljala residence of the Rehmans as the Calcutta High Court declared that Rizwanur Rehman had committed suicide and was not murdered.

Reacting on the hearing, Rizwanur’s mother Kishwar Jehan said: “Wo kehte hain ki usne atmahatya ki hain. Par dil nahin manta. Wo eisa nahin tha.” (They say he had committed suicide. But I don’t think so. He was not of that type.

The family still refuses to buy the theory that Rizwanur was not “murdered” but they do no hold any grudge against the CBI.

“We had wanted a CBI inquiry and we got that. Both the CID and CBI concluded that Rizwan had committed suicide.

Now what can we say?” Jahan asked with tears in her eyes.

Jehan still hopes to hear from her daughter-in-law Priyanka Todi someday. “She was a nice girl but I have never heard from her ever since she left our house,” said Jehan.

Rizwanur’s family is satisfied that at least the inquiry has exposed the involvement of top police officers and members of the Todi family in the conspiracy.

“Justice will be done only if all the accused are punished,” the family members say.

Kiswar Jehan’s thoughts were echoed by her eldest son Rukbanur who was present during the hearing.

“I still believe that my brother was killed but we will not oppose the CBI report. We will wait for the next hearing on March 12 to know how the CBI had come to this conclusion,” said Rukbanur.

On March 12, the CBI will file a chargesheet against the accused.

The family might then consider appealing to the Supreme Court.
