Road mishap kills 16 in Himachal Pradesh

Rampur, December 2: Sixteen members of a marriage party, including eight women, were killed and a boy injured when their vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Rampur sub-division of Shimla district, official sources said on Sunday.

The vehicle carrying the marriage party from Dankapat village of Kullu district on way to Kingal in Rampur, fell into a 300-metre deep gorge near Artu late on Saturday night, killing 16 people on the spot, Sub-divisional Magistrate Rampur, Dilip Negi said.

A 12-year-old boy was injured and admitted to government hospital here.

Police said they were informed about the mishap by the locals.

All the bodies have been recovered and the district administration announced an immediate relief of Rs 6,000 to the families of the deceased, Negi said.

The exact cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained, sources added.
