Mumbai, February 18 The police arrested three persons on Sunday night while they attempted to rob two students at Juhu beach.

According to the police, the two youths, identified as Imran Hussain Chaudhary and Abdul Hamidul Haq, both students of a suburban college, were walking on the beach at about half-an-hour past midnight when a group of four people allegedly got into a scuffle with them.

As they passed Holiday Inn hotel, the police said, the four men pushed the students. The students retaliated and it led to a fight between the two groups. “In the middle of the fight, the four persons snatched the mobile phones and wallets of the students. Realizing that this was not an ordinary scuffle and that they were being robbed, the students raised an alarm,” said Senior Police Inspector Deepak Katkade of Juhu police station.

“Hearing their shouts, two beat marshals who were patrolling the area came to the spot and arrested three out of the four men. However, the fourth man, one Rajesh who was allegedly the gang leader, managed to escape,” added Katkade.

When asked about the names of the two students, Katkade said, “There is more to the case than what meets the eye. We are also conducting an inquiry into what the students were doing on the beach so late in the night. Hence, at this stage, revealing the details of the complainants would affect our investigation.”
