Jalandhar, February 8 Former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode, who was picked up yesterday and released after two hours of questioning, was arrested today and remanded in judicial custody till February 11.

Cops in plain clothes went to his residence today morning and arrested him after discussing the matter for about an hour at his house in New Hardyala Nagar. He was arrested as a preventive measure in connection with the protest march by Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) against the Dera Sacha Sauda head.

However, Rode pleaded for bail as the offence was bailable, but his bail was not accepted and he was sent in judicial remand.

Rode has condemned the Punjab government for indulging in “anti-democratic” activities and said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is “pressuring them for vested interests”.

Police sources said Rode was in Chandigarh yesterday and was called back to Jalandhar by SSP Arpit Shukla and returned late at night.
