Chandigarh, March 17 The UT Administration will conduct a fresh biometric survey of all the people who were not covered in the previous survey.

UT Administrator General SF Rodrigues (retd) directed Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar to conduct the fresh survey, while responding to the grievances of people who approached the administrator in the hour-long public hearing at UT Secretariat today. Rodrigues issued the directions while hearing complaints regarding allotment of houses under the Rehabilitation Programme of Chandigarh Administration.

General Rodrigues emphasised that all the administrative departments and subordinate offices must set up grievances cell in their respective establishments to monitor the day-to-day complaints of the public. He added that the implementation of various decisions involving larger public interest must be given priority and followed up with periodical monitoring at different levels.

“All unscrupulous elements that have been encouraging encroachment practices and illegal occupation of government land must be identified and accountability must be ensured by government officials,” Rodrigues mentioned. The senior officers of UT Administration attended the grievance hearing.

At the hearing, Inspector General of Police SK Jain personally assured a senior citizen, Goveradhan Dass, resident of Sector 19-D, that his grievance would be addressed soon. Dass had approached the administrator against the Chandigarh police’s inaction on his complaint.

Many others, including physically-challenged persons, were assured by the officers present in the public hearing that their grievances would be redressed promptly.
