In its report on Monday, Chandigarh Newsline had highlighted the plight of the members of Universal Cooperative House Building First Society, who are running from pillar to post for a flat for which they have already paid lakhs of rupees to the management of the society.
Rodrigues passed the instructions while listening to the complaints in a two-hour public hearing at UT Secretariat in Sector 9 on Monday. The complaints pertaining to irregularities by cooperative housing societies drew attention of General Rodrigues who immediately asked the Deputy Commissioner to initiate stern action against the errant managements.
Accompanied by wife Jean Rodrigues, the UT Administrator gave a patient hearing to the distressed people, assured prompt action for expediting cases and also necessary guidance wherever required.
Residents of Sector 67 highlighted the problem of sewage and dirty water flowing in the drain passing near their houses and emitting a foul smell.
General Rodrigues asked the senior officers of the Municipal Corporation and the administration to resolve the woes of the residents within a month.
Responding to the complaint by some residents about encroachments in Sector 22, General Rodrigues asked the Deputy Commissioner to take immediate action against the unscrupulous elements and take action to remove the encroachments at the earliest.
He also asked the Deputy Commissioner to evolve a monitoring system for checking the unauthorised and illegal occupation of government land and to take stringent action against the defaulters.
