Roma Day is an attempt to promote cultural relations between India and Romania.
An exhibition displaying 82 paintings of schoolchildren from five countries - Slovak Republic, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Croatia and Australia - was organised for the first phase of the programme.
S K Setia, Director, Public Instruction (Schools), inaugurated the exhibition. He was accompanied by Saroj Mittal, Assistant Director, Vocation Education. The exhibition will be open for students of all city schools till 10th April.
Hungarian singer Guru Jina, known as Gypsy Princess of Europe, opened the second phase of the programme. The audience was left awestruck when Jina sang couplets of Meera’s bhajans and famous Hindi songs.
C R Modgill, Director, Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Academy, poet Manjit Indira, theatre artist Davinder Dhaman, along with other renowned artists of the city attended the occasion.
While addressing the audience, S K Setia said the programme was a successful maiden venture to develop cultural relation between the two countries.
GMSS School principal J S Basota said, “We are in talks with the authorities to take Indian students abroad along with teachers for cultural promotion.”
