Chandigarh, March 20 The rotary Club of Chandigarh commemorated the 200th heart surgery performed under its Rotary Heartline Project at Fortis Hospital today. The Club presented gifts to the 14-year-old girl, Sukhwinder Kaur, who was the 200th child to be operated upon. Shivinder M Singh, chairman and managing director, Fortis Healthcare Ltd, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr K K Talwar, Director, PGI, was the guest of honour.

Shivinder Singh agreed to fully sponsor the heart surgeries of two children at the Fortis Hospital through the Rotary Club of Chandigarh, and remarked that their participation in Rotary Heartline Project was primarily because of their concern for young heart patients who couldn’t avail proper services due to paucity of funds.

Dr K K Talwar, Director, PGI, speaking on the occasion, said that the Rotary has come to the rescue of those unfortunate patients who cannot afford the cost of surgery, and have also in a way helped the doctors who otherwise feel frustrated and helpless for such poor patients.

Past District Governor Kawal Bedi informed that since the inception of the project, 203 surgeries have been completed till date, which include one child each from Afghanistan and Bangladesh, two from Nepal, five from Uganda, 27 from Pakistan, and 167 from India.
