Rs 400 crores for streamlining education

Ludhiana, January 23 Punjab Minister Hira Singh Gabria today said that the government has launched a comprehensive plan of Rs 400 crore, for streamlining the education system in Punjab, under which the education infrastructure in the schools is being strengthened.

Gabria was addressing a function after handing over cheques of grants under this programme at Government Middle School, Dholewal, here today.

The minister added that to ensure the quality of education at par with the public schools in cities, Adarash schools are being opened in all the blocks of the state. He pointed out that in each constituency, three senior secondary or high schools are being upgraded, by providing modern computer based education facilities, laboratories and science classes.

Gabria said that 15,000 teachers are being recruited by March end, and the remaining 15,000 vacant posts will be filled in the next financial year.

Later, Gabria presided over a function, after laying the foundation stone of new block in Government Senior Secondary School at Khanpur village, and distributed cheques of grants to one dozen panchayats of surrounding villages.
