Rules for setting up schools on reserved plots relaxed

Mumbai, January 28 Relaxing the stringent rules of development of plots reserved for primary and primary-cum-secondary schools, registered institutions or private parties will now able to set up secondary schools-cum-junior colleges. The state government has modified the development control rules with a view to allow educational activities of primary and secondary schools and junior colleges at one place with additional FSI.

The proposed modification states that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) may allow development of the land reserved for municipal primary school to set up primary-cum-secondary school and primary-cum-secondary school-cum junior college by registered institutions. Additional FSI upto 200 per cent can be utilised for the purpose of college, provided if permissible FSI and additional FSI upto 100 per cent is utilised for the purpose of primary-cum-secondary school-cum-junior college.

The state government's modified DC rules have now been forwarded to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The civic administration has tabled a proposal with the Improvement Committee, which is scheduled to meet on Wednesday.
