"I feel quite relieved now. I am looking forward to going to Karnataka," Krishna said over telephone from New Delhi.
Krishna said he was optimistic of taking up the challenge of leading the party in the coming assembly elections in Karnataka, expected to be held during this May.
He said throughout his career he had to face challenges.
"Challenges continue to be there. I am confident that I will overcome them and emerge on top," he said, apparently referring to the Herculean task before him in the coming polls.
He said he would return to Bangalore in three or four days.
Sources close to him said he will be submitting his resignation to President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.
Krishna, who had been expressing desire to relinquish the post for the past several months, was summoned to New Delhi on Tuesday night by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi asked Krishna to quit the governorship and work for the Congress party's return to power in Karnataka.
