New Delhi, February 1 Call it a communication gap or ego clash, but a resultant impasse has left the country’s top shotgun shooters high and dry. Meanwhile, the fight between the National Rifle Association of India and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) continues.

The first (10-day) camp in preparation for the upcoming Asian clay championships was to have started here today at the Karni Singh ranges. But the stalemate stopped that.

“We haven’t got any sanction for the camp,” was all NRAI secretary Rajeev Bhatia had to say regarding the preparatory camp. For all national camps, the SAI provides facilities including ammunition. Bhatia added: “Without sanction, it’s not within the purview of the NRAI to hold the camp.”

India will be hosting two competitions — the Asian Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships and the Grand Prix in Jaipur between February 21 to 28. For the camp NRAI had also selected 33 shooters in both senior and junior groups.

When contacted PC Kashyap, SAI Executive Director (Teams Wing), didn’t specify the dates for the start of the camp but said: “Certain issues need to be clarified with the NRAI.”

The second and final camp is suppose to held in Jaipur from February 11.
