Mayawati

New Delhi The Supreme Court refused to restrain the Uttar Pradesh government from carrying out work for installation of statues of Chief Minister Mayawati and other Dalit leaders at a park in Noida.

The apex Court said it cannot interfere in the matter in which the approval has been granted by the state Cabinet. "If it has been approved by the government, this court cannot interfere," a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said, when an application seeking to maintain the status quo on the works was mentioned before it.

"If the cabinet has approved it, then we can't do anything," the Bench said.

The Uttar Pradesh government had proposed to install statues of several BSP leaders including that of Mayawati and party founder Kanshi Ram in the gigantic 4-km long walled area along the bank of river Yamuna in Noida.

Statues are in political interest wasting public money by B S GANESH, BANGALORE on 12 Jul 2009

I feel since our country has too many poor people struggling for food and some are committing suicide due to hunger and loans statues are not required and are in political interest qasting public money only with selfish interest. Hence it is better Supreme Court revises its decision.B S GANESH, BANGALORE

where the money went? by Jaggu on 12 Jul 2009

Statue installation in UP by shanthanu on 11 Jul 2009

No body would have bothered about Statue erection if 1000 crores of Rupees were not spent from the public funds. It is immaterial whether Mayavathi fits into the definition of a Dalit or Kanshi Ram may be called one. If you are really interested in the upliftment of Dalits would not this huge sum have gone a long way in ameliorating their sufferings atleast to some extent, instead of going down the drain as it is an unproductive expenditure??

installation of staqtues of lalit leaders by harikumar on 11 Jul 2009

what is the harm? In US you could see the decisions of white settlers who came to Pacific coast much later to the effect that any one bringing the head of an Indian (native american) or a wolf will be awarded 5 dollars. the upper caste hindus played their role when they had the power. Now Mayawati has the polwer and she will play it.What is wrong with it? These things happen in the course of history. Let us not make an issue out of it.Action and reaction are equal and opposite. The white man abused the black by making them slaves. The role is now getting reversed. Vajpai is the last Brahmin PM of India. Earlier all the PMs and CMs were Brahmins. Now no Brahmin could become a PM or CM in India. That's the course of history and there is no sense in finding fault with Mayawati. after all she is not Obama for he had white woman as his mother and black african as his father. But Mayawati's parents were both scheduled caste. Mayawati is right in her actions. Allow her the freedom .

Waste not, Want not. by Bhaiyya on 06 Aug 2009

What is the harm? Allow her freedom. What is wrong with it? All very pithy statements reking of bias towards a woman who spends 1000's of crores of taxpayers money.Let alone the millions of poor, the common man of UP needs more speciality hospitals, better education, there are droughts and floods and food shortages which are the needs for the moment. So where does a chief minister's priority lie? In the welfare of her people or in the flattery of her egotistical image? If Brahmin PM's and CM's wronged their people. It is now the scheduled caste CM who is in competition with them commit a greater wrong.Such a pitiful competition at the sacrificial cost of the common man's money. When dying without food, will tyhe poor lick the statues in thirst or eat the dust leftover from the building of these monuments.probably a 100 or 200 years from now, a child will look at these elephant statues and wonder why so many had to bve made just to learn what a pachyderm looked like. The child may never come to know the truth that millions could have been fed with the money that was used to build it. Asoka is remembered for his great works of philanthrophy, rather than the monuments that he built.Mayawati could have taken a leaf out of his book, if she aspired to be the foremost great Dalit ruler of this land.

SC Decisions. by RN on 11 Jul 2009

SC is interested only in certain cases, which the Justices seem convenient to them. All parties use such platforms for keeping their leaders name alive. e.g. The new Airport of Hyderabad, the new Sea Link in Mumbai, all named after Rajiv Gandhi. Now, we had Mr. PVN Rao who was a Chief Minister, held many ministerial posts at the Centre and finally even became a PM, if not enough, he was a Congress person. Still the boot lickers in Andra Pradesh did not bother to name to such a good personality who turned around the Indian Economy to an enviable position as of now. Nobody wants to make the mistake of Mahatmaji - he did not care for his family - for that many of Indians still do not know howmany children he was having, instead the people India will have ansers for the family of Priyanka, the latest so called Gandhis. This is why many of them, including Mayawati is looking after her selfish interest only.

UP and West Bengal are special States in India. by SC Aggarwal on 11 Jul 2009

I think Supreme Court of India is right in not interfereing the work being done by the UP Government. Behan Mayawati, as Chief Minister is doing what she thinks is in the best interest of the masses of UP and constructing statues is one of such programmes. What is wrong in it? Some times people are very angry over the developmental works being done in UP and West Bengal. But both in UP

We can remove he government by election by Ganesh Ram on 11 Jul 2009

Let the next government come and remove the statues and put Motilal/Jawaharlal/Kamala/Indira/Rajiv/Sonia/Rahul/Priyanka's statues instead. You know there is a park called Kamala Nehru Park in Mumbai. Can any one tell what is her contribution to India??

Stop the 'caste' atrocities by Redmaple8 on 11 Jul 2009

I am shocked to hear that we have still 'caste' atrocities happening against our fellow citizens in spite of Mayawati directing her police officers to stop these crimes. This is what we should talk about not the statue or the parks which bring work and tourist to the state of UP. Many of these writers do not have the same of enthusiasm when it comes to caste discrimination.

instead of seeing the dim light shown by mayawati, every backward must see the glow in themsenves. by sarma on 11 Jul 2009

alas if only the backwards get educated properly without wasting more time and more money as has been done in 60 yrs of independance, they dont have to depend and look further into reservations. they will gain sense and see and differentiate good from the bad, stupid and moron.it has to come from withen and no mayawati can change the lives of the downtrodden except exploitation. congress is no exception. these statue bussiness must be finished off for good by those people who have elected her to power.how can a dalit enjoy a decent his life just by visiting a dalit park and sitting at the feet of a statue is beyond anybodies imagination. if a backward does not want to come out of his stupidity and ignorance, no amount of money, good will, efforts , and great leaders can help them.

Maya's Statue by peshori ahuja on 11 Jul 2009

In democracy the three wings "Executive", "Legislature", and "Judiciary" are considered to be independent of each other,By arguing that since Cabinet has given the permission the SC cannot interfere, the Judiciary has conveyed that they have to go by what Executive does. With best regards to the Judiciary, the ruling tends to show that Judiciary is obedient to Executive.

SC FOR STATUES by kim on 11 Jul 2009

WHEN BILLIONS ANUALLY ARE SPENT ON UPKEEP OF GANDHI AND NEHRU DYNASTY`S DEATH PARKS AND STATUES WHY NOT ANY MONEY BY MAYAWATI.IT IS A FACT THAT THE POLITICAL ROGUES ARE EVEN AFTER DEATH CAUSING HUGE LOSSES OF RVENUE TO NATION IN MAINTAINING FALSE PROPAGANDA OF THEIR GREATNESS TO FOOL MAJORITY OF PEOPLE OF INDIA, WHOSE SELFISHNESS MAKE THEM WORSHIP THE DEAD,FOR VOTE BANK POLITICS.

supre court decision and expectations by subbarao on 11 Jul 2009

Dear Editor: This decision of supreme court in a way should enlighten the public that the fundamental mistake lies in electing wrong people as our government representatives. If we elect right people, those with high calibre and character we will be less worried about our nation is governed and its consequences. It seems to me that our system of governance is malfunctioning at every level including Supre Court. In olden days people were told that Kings can do anything they want and cannot be questioned. During British time we were told British can do anything they want and their judges cannot be criticized or questioned and must be obeyed. During our time our cabinet and government can do whatever they want and court and public cannot correct or question even when the decisions are blatently wrong. We cannot be critical of judges because they can never go wrong. Is this the fate of Indians to have very sick people running the country and ruining the nation and cannot be corrected.

What Honourable Supreme Court today said is unfortunate. by Himani Bhakuni , An architect and IAS aspirant on 10 Jul 2009

I am shocked to hear from media that Supreme court has declined to hear the petitioner regarding an interim stay order on the ongoing dream projects of Ms. Mayawati saying that since the state govt. has done every thing duly passed and apporved by state assembly and hence we will not interfare sends a shock wave to all the poor people across the country. If this is not unconstitutional than nothing is unconstitutional in our country.People will loose faith in judiciary as well if this will be approach of the Honourable Supreme Court whio is the custodian of Constitution.

Mayawati Statue by BNG on 10 Jul 2009

It is the sweet will of Apex Court judges to or not to interfere in the Cabinet decision. Tomorrow if the cabinet decides unanimously to sell the state to an outsider, will it be a silent spectator. Cabinet is sacrosanct or the Constitution - a new question has come up now. Mayawati has a phobia for the statues. She is blind to the public problems. The state is lagging in all sectors whether it is education, health, employment, social security etc. She is uttering the names of Kanshi Ram and Dr. Ambedkar. The facts are that she never cared for Kanshi Ram when he was alive and she has never read Dr. Ambedkar. Has she ever cared to meet Mrs. Savita Ambedkar and their son Prakash to know about the philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar. Now with this decision of Supreme Court the people are dejected and disappointed. It was the last hope for them. Thank God she or her ilks were no where around during the early period of Independence. God save this country.

people's need for answers by Hitesh on 10 Jul 2009

what is happening is not right. people need answers to the money they pay as taxes to the government.and what do we get in return?a government that does not listen to people's needs?MAYAVATI STATUES?are we a nation or an add agency propogating leaders like Mayavati? we are a country of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose and many more respectable names to fit in this short message. and what will the coming generations see? instead of heros of this nation this country's next generation will see adds being put up on streets!is this what we call freedom where a political leader does whatever he / she wants and gets away with it?i think the statues need to be pulled down and Mayavati along with her party be banished from the nation's governing cycle.its vital we do that or we'll only see statues of politicians being put up and work never taking place.SC putting its hands up on the matter is a shame. we demand an action be taken.

Fear of death and annihilation? by shanthanu on 10 Jul 2009

Mayavathi has erected many of her own statues probably fearing that days are not far when the people of UP will throw her to dustbin and she will be forgotten very soon. But the irony is the same UP populace do not have the bakbone to agitate and condemn the wasteful expenditure which should have gone for their welfare.

what a shame............. by Amol Joshi on 10 Jul 2009

It feels very sorry to read what the supreme court said. The UP govt. is erecting statutes at the cost of public money, which really contributes nothing to UP's development. Tomorrow the cabinet will take few more decisions like this one that will waste lot more money for no reason. Is the Supreme court going to repeat the same statement in future also? The supreme court is the only institution that receives lot respect from common man. If the supreme court does not provide remedy now, misuse of public money will continue to take place rather it will increase by leaps and bounds..........

what a judgement by ysmuzumdar on 10 Jul 2009

by this way cabinet can pass any resolution and bestow the benefits to any cabinet minister.please in future don't ask how many statues a person has created.there will be competion from jayas, badals, mamtas, yeddiruppa.let the u.p.cabinet pass a resolution to spend rs.1 crore each on marraiges ministers legitimate and illegitimate children.we honest people pay all taxes for these present day maharajas and maharanis.

How long will we watch helplessly? by Abhaya S Dash on 10 Jul 2009

Supreme Court is probably right in rejecting. But this can come under the purview of CAG and AG of UP.What about the other checks and balances provided by the constitution and the various Acts made thereunder? If our great leaders, politicians and bureaucrats are helpless after cornering all the powers under the constitution for themselves, what the common man is expected to do? That too, when the little power that he is given to excercise once in five years is taken away by the so-called great leaders by guile and deceit. This is one of the worst facet of democracy in India; again thanks to our great leaders. Now an MP or an MLA is equated with the 'Raja Saheb' of the yesteryears(except probably in the big cities/metropolises). So the CMs are the Emperors. The solutions to this will eventually come out through the inner contradictions of the decaying systems and values. Till such time, the wretched common men of the largest democracy of the world will have to wait and suffer.

Mayawati's Statue by Manish on 10 Jul 2009

Hi allI will say that we get the government that we deserve. Uttar Pradesh though being rich in all kind of resources is not able to elect a right government then why to blame Maya, Mulayam or SC.No one wishes to do something on their own just writing here wouldnt make a difference rather a resonance of frustration will have a multiplier effect and frustrate us more. If we need to get rid of this kind of cheep and ill minded people we need to elect our representatives very carefully and by keeping aside our local personal gains. As its a matter of some 100 crore but this state is loosing more than that every day in several departments. People are forced to move out of the state for employment and are being attacked and hated by citizens in other sister states.. UP is being branded similar to BIHAR as a totally corrupt state and corrupt people. This can't be done by government but only by the society itself.

General Manager- HR by shreyamun mehta on 10 Jul 2009

Having utmost respect and faith in our judiciary system, I respectfully disagree to the Hon'ble Judge's decision especially when a nation's money, which belongs to its people, is being spent in projects which is surely projecting "exclusivity" and I am sure, UP requires several other options to take care of their people's needs - more basic and important than statues.... This judgement surely deserves an appeal in our apex court

Maya wasting Taxpayers money by Jairaj Yadav on 10 Jul 2009

May has no business of wasting tax payers money on statues of self and her mentor. UP is poor state and over 2000 crores wasted could have contributed a lot for upliftment and job creation for poors

MAYAWAIT STATUES by NIRANJAN on 10 Jul 2009

WHILE MAYAWATI CAN GET AWAY WITH EXPLAINATION ON OTHER DALIT LEADERS' STATUES, SHE CAN NEVER JUSTIFY HER OWN STATUES. NO PERSON IS STUPID ENOUGH TO ERECT HIS/HER OWN STATUES. ONLY SOME DICTATORS HAVE DONE IT. AND THOSE DICTATORS HAVE MET WITH VERY SAD ENDS. IS MAYAWATI HOPING TO COME TO SUCH AN END? IT ALSO APPEARS THAT PEOPLE OF UP ARE SO NAIVE SO AS NOT TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPLICATION OF THIS SPENDING SPREE. DO THEY NOT HAVE THE GUTS TO ASK MAYAWATI NOT TO WASTE MONEY ON STATUES?

IT dept sleeping? by Thiru.D on 10 Jul 2009

It's a sine always tax payers get affected and penalised! What about such cheap Politicians and their family? In recent history there was no Politicians get penalised for giving false declaration about their wealth to the public or govt? This type of Situations Supreme Court should involved and ensure the culprits punished and prove Justice still breathing. Otherwise really SORRY, India will be no more, it will be in paper only.
