Gopinath Munde

Pune BJP leader Gopinath Munde lambasted former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil for his remarks on the death sentence of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, saying it was important to give effect to the Supreme Court verdict in the case.

He said Afzal Guru's case cannot be compared with other pending mercy petitions, referring to Patil's statement that it was unseemly to single him out and make haste in hanging him when some 35 files were still pending.

Commenting on Patil's statement that the Afzal issue was being "politicised" and there was no bravery in hanging him, Munde said the death sentence to the terrorist mastermind had been pronounced by the country's apex court and not by any political party.

Munde, who was addressing a 'Brahmin Mahasabha' convention in Pune on Sunday night, also said that it was a pity that former Union Minister was not able to comprehend the nature of crime for which Afzal was convicted.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena working President Uddhav Thackeray, who was also present at the convention, criticised Patil.

Citing policy adopted by the Britishers, Thackeray said the colonial rulers lost no time in hanging Indian revolutionaries who gave their lives for the country's freedom but in free India those who undermine her sovereignty were being spared despite the apex court's verdict.

Hang him for his incompetence by Jayadevan on 07 Jan 2009

Afzal Guru, if he was part of the attack on Parliament, deserves no mercy. He deserves hanging for sheer incompetence. If they had been successful in killing at least one of these parasites who are a greater danger to us than Pakistan and all the terror outfits put together, India would have been eternally grateful to them. They raised our hopes and then disappointed us. No mercy.

look who call the shots by shyam kishore on 05 Jan 2009

Congress in is alliance with many communal outfits in India. Their Major ally in Kerala is Indian Union Muslim League whoes workers were procecuted in kerala for the notorious Marad carnage . Mr E Ahemed our external affairs minister was said to be the master mind behind this carnage .he as a minister defied the notification by the dist collecter and entered a Mosque and offiered prayers where a huge cache of Arms were recovered later . Then Kerala Chief Minister and our Defence Minister AK Antony rejected a CBI probe to protect Mr E Ahmed and other Musling League leaders . those who undermine the national interests for votes ruling the roost .what to expect from these dirty politicians ?

Murderers of the world, unite! by Jayadevan on 08 Jan 2009

And of course, the RSS, being a cultural organization, has no murderers - go to the same state of Kerala, ask how many murders RSS workers have committed. Deliberate omission of part of the truth may be profitable in the short run, but as Dharmaputra found out, this is not very laudable. We may also remember an old RSS member called Nathuram Godse, who has the credit of shooting an old, defenseless Gujarati gentleman called Mohandas Gandhi. All murderers are murderous, but some murderers are more murderous than others? And, of course, the BJP has no ties with the RSS.

Afzal's hanging by Amit on 05 Jan 2009

Don't you worry, Afzal would be hanged once lok sabha elections are announced, Congress is waiting for the right time to take mileage, Oh but Congress cannot afford to loose muslim vote bank, so dear bhartiya brothers and sisters forget Afzal's hanging atleast when Congress is in power, Lets see if BJP can do this if at all it comes in power.

It is the test of secularism to make Afzal Home Minister of India to bring muxlim into mainstream. by Shameless Indian Secular Hindu on 05 Jan 2009

Secularism demands that Secular parties like Congress and UPA allies and Left should take secularism above narrow national views. Afzal should hence be made the Home Minister. He will bring a fresh new perspective to Indian polity and bring secularism to mainstream. Under his guidance, there will be no need for Indian Parliament since India will be a sovereign country finally under the ISI and LeT. This will also solve the problem of muxlim attack on Parliament, since there will be no more Parliament. Lalu ji and other friends of SIMI must ask Christian Saint Sonia ji to do this ASAP.

Congress The Wings of Terror by Vishwanath on 05 Jan 2009

Basically the Delay made in Hanging of Mr. Afzal Guru is the Political Conspiracy. As Congress and National Conference are the Chief architects of the Kashmir Issue .Was it the Election Rigging in 1987 in JK or was it creation of Anti-India sendtiments by National Conference in J

Munde's worries are realistic by Raj on 05 Jan 2009

I think Munde is worried that Afzal will be set free in Kandahar with some love gifts if Advani comes to power. Don't worry Munde, we will not let that happen. We will not vote for Advani and his party who sets terrorists free with cash to buy arms for another attack.

Democracy or Hypocracy by hrishi on 05 Jan 2009

Entire structure of our democracy seems lost, and i sincerely feel there is need of drastic change in governance system, when apex court has given verdict based on available laws, then who is government to stop it from execution. Mulayam singh-CBI issue has taken back stage slowly. whether we do punish anyone for any crime in country. our laws doesn't hold any power to do right justice to situation, which is why they are made for. We are on the back foot when it comes to punishment. Politicians pass idiosyncratic bills within fifteen minutes in parliament, but can not work a single day to strengthen laws and have them necessary power to sort the criminal and give him punishment. by no punishment enviroment, criminals know they can escape at the end of the day.Shivraj Patil is Boneless, Amr Singh is moral less, Laloo-mulayam-paswan is brainless and ethicless. Congress is hypocrite, BJP is lost in identity and internal affairs. Politicians need to have moral, dutifulness and devotion.

BJP and Congress (two sides of same coin) by KVSKumar on 05 Jan 2009

The congres is known for its minority vote bank politics whilst the BJP is well know for its Hiindutva vote bank. Nobody seems to be interested or courageous to place national interest above narroy partisan ones. It is as simple as that!!!!

Not Patil alone--- by romesh.sharma on 05 Jan 2009

Beyond any doubts this Congress/UPA is the worst and weakest Govt India ever had. They are working against the interests of the nation's security, unity and defence.Palter and pander through deception and cheap appeasements they have driven the Nation into too fragile state. Its not only ex-HM Patil to be blamed for not hanging AfzalGuru but all congress leaders like Sonia,MMohanSingh and their selfish accomplices like AmarSingh,ArjunSinghMulayamsingh,Laloo,Paswan, Karunanidhi and many known traitors.Appeasement os muslims has ruined Indian unity and pride all for vote-bank policy. There is no excuse or reason for amnesty for this crime, most derogatory act of attacking Indian Parliament/sovereignty.As the matter of fact he should've been hanged within 24 hours after SC verdict.Shame to Cong/UPA for letting nation down in the eyes of world community.

Confused mindset of our leaders. by (Dr.) B.N.Anand on 05 Jan 2009

Although the Mumbai terror attack had been a highly traumatic experience for every one in the country, it had also proved blessing in disguise. It has not only made it possible for the country to get rid of a highly iincompetent home minister but has also helped the people of the country more united . Mr.Afzal Guru is not an ordinary convicted criminal in the country. The political leaders should thank their stars that the security forces did not make it possible for the terrorists to enter the parliament building . It would have been an utterly catastrophic if that had happened. What to speak of carrying out the punishment as per supreme court judgement, the politicians are so thankless that only a dozen of MPs and ministers attended in the Thanksgiving prayers on the annisversary of this attack. The world, especially the terrorists know the mindset of our politicians and That is why we have more often such attacks, which is not something we should feel proud.

Governance by MVC on 05 Jan 2009

India can grow faster if everybody minds their business and politicians work more for India that for themselves! We don't need politicians talking on TV all the time and waste their time for politics!

Hanging of a parliament attack convict by Francisco Fernandes on 05 Jan 2009

Indian Citizens in all over Indian dont understand why the Government is dragging its feet to complete the sentence ratified by the Top court in the country. This is very strange and no common Indian citizen can understand the politics behind it. Every Indian citizen thinks when a crime is committed and the person is found guilty he should be punished that's it and no doubt about it. This is a straight forward case and there should not be any complications but it is being made to look like a complicated case by our own politicians who put a mask of sheep and behind remains a wolf. One never knows what will happen to the country in the hands of this politicians who are not showing any guts and take firm action even it is an attack on the sovereignity of the Nation.
