Kolkata, March 13 The Jadavpur University campus today turned into a battleground with the supporters of the SFI and the Arts Faculty Students Union (AFSU) clashing.

The trouble began after the JU authorities cleared eight nomination forms of SFI members for the March 26 students' union polls. The nominations were earlier cancelled on the ground that they had written political science as their subject instead of International Relations.

Irked by this, the AFSU members gheraoed the office of the Dean and protested against the authorities for being biased towards the SFI.

"I was hit on my head and the SFI supporters also beat up some of our girl students," alleged Sourish Ghosh, the general secretary of AFSU.

"I have filed an FIR with the Jadavpur police against the two students of Bengali department,” he added. The SFI raised a volley of allegations against AFSU. "They abused girls from the Bengali department. We will ask the students to vote against them," said Uttio Basu, an SFI representative. Defending the decision of the university officials in clearing the nomination, Basu said, "We have mentioned political science in the nomination papers, which is not a mistake.”
