Vadodara Though the Congress and the Samajwadi Party were unable to have a pre-poll alliance, SP General Secretary Amar Singh on Friday indicated that his party is not averse to have an alliance with the UPA-led government.

The pre-poll alliance in UP, will not be an issue after the poll results, as Congress will not be able to form the government without SP's support at the Centre, Singh said at Harni airport on his arrival from Uttar Pradesh.

"As we are a secular party and Congress will need our support in its efforts to form the government at the Centre," Singh said.

Singh was in Vadodara to make announcement that SP will put up seven candidates in Gujarat.

"My party position is weak in Gujarat as we have no base but we will contest seven seats in the state to improve our position here," Singh said.

Well said, great secullular statesman and brother of Muxlims and Xtians by Sec Alla Ullar on 21 Mar 2009

This is a visionary move. This way maximum secallaular seats will be won. And after election there can be even more secullularism by the visionary statesmen of UPA and TF under the saintlike leadership of Brother Xtian Soneeya jee and Rubbery jee.

Unpredictable person ! by Ramdas Naik on 20 Mar 2009

What Mr Amarsingh says changes like the weather in Britain : fair one hour ,foul the next. He should get the Guiness record for the world's most unpredictable politician.

Amarsingh SP by Subramanian on 20 Mar 2009

Election commission to note:- They should formulate a rule that the parties should have alliagance agreement only at the Pre-poll stage and not after polls and in such case the voters are not cheated by the parties, example I am going to to vote SP cuase they are against Congress. But after the poll if they join hands with Congress - they are cheating me - What EC says please

Amarsingh SP by subramanian on 20 Mar 2009

why not all politicians, Prakash Karat, Laluji, Paswanji, Amarji etc., now join with congress ormerge their parities with congress and fight election ? if they do that I am sure they are minimising the job of our beloved Soniaji. Instead of giving hand lated they should do now for helping congress.

Self respect of Amarsingh by MOHANDADDIKAR on 20 Mar 2009

Why single our Amarsingh only ? No pollitician in the country has any self resect.. He loves only money, power and prestige and will lick the boots of any leader who can fool the gullible voters to bring them to power.

Doe Amar Singh have any self respect? by Ayyaj Abbas Bagwan on 20 Mar 2009

There is a limit to which an individual or a party would not mind being humiliated and kicked, but not for Amar Singh. For the last five years , he has been a spineless spokesman who would eat his words as soon as they come out of his mouth, and grovel before Sonia no matter how many times Congress would snub him. If there were a prize for a perfect clown, Amar Singh would win it hands down.

Do not change the voter's mandate by Ameet on 20 Mar 2009

All parties should be asked to state in advance as to with which party they will allign, It is not fair for the political parties to thrust the choice on the people after the elections are over. If the parties wish to change the group , people's mandate shouod be re sought.

Poll Alliances by Avinash Baranwal on 20 Mar 2009

Great Idea.It must be supported through PIL.

PRE-POLL AND POST POLL by Mohan on 20 Mar 2009

Are pre-poll alliances going to be stable post polls ? Definitely not. Parties are going to switch camps depending upon the result favouring the three combos. Only three things could be said with certainty and that is we can rule out a Congress-BJP coalition and also the prospect of a Left supporting BJP led NDA or the RJD supporting NDA. All other possibilities are wide open. Alas it is the people who are going to be fooled by voting for this or that alliance as it is not going to withstand post poll.

alliance after poll by R. Bhakther solomon on 20 Mar 2009

Why the sudden realization to Amar Singh that SP can have a post poll alliance with the Congress instead of a pre poll alliance? Does he want to keep all the options open to SP? He must be under the notion that in the event of either the Congress or the BJP fails to make up the figures on their own or with their alliance partners; the SP can provide the needed MPs. A dream never will come true! By all means, SP’s tally will not be more than BSP’s tally. In such a scenario and that too once BSP leader comes to know that she can not make it to the top, she might as well come forward, depending upon the ground reality , to provide the needed support to the Congress or to the BJP. In that case, the play boy politician and his party will become orphans. Therefore better make up the mind to support the Congress or the BJP or the third front now itself. In politics enemies becoming friends and friends becoming foes are common .Hence he needs worry even if he crosses the camp to the BJP.

Alliance after polls by Avinash Baranwal on 20 Mar 2009

SP is not averse to anything...and anything means 'ANYTHING'. This is true not only for SP but for entire political setup of India.

DISSAPPEAR by KUMAR on 20 Mar 2009
