New Delhi A day after Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi backed Manmohan Singh's candidature for Prime Ministership after the Lok Sabha polls, two UPA allies on Sunday said that they would not be averse to accepting the top job if given a chance.

"If Sharad Pawar or Mulayam Singh get a chance, then both will not oppose each other," SP leader Amar Singh told reporters after meeting Pawar in New Delhi.

At the same time Amar Singh said that his party had no objection to Manmohan Singh's second term in future.

"Right now we have Manmohan Singh as the leader. But in case Sharad Pawar gets a chance or Mulayam Singh gets a chance they will not oppose each other," he said.

His statement comes at a time when the SP is having a tough time in arriving at an alliance with the Congress in UP.

The NCP is also pressurising the Congress for a better deal in Maharashtra.

NCP and SP have not taken kindly to the Congress decision of not going for a national alliance and instead opt for seat sharing at state level.

The next UPA Govt IF it wins will be a nightmare..... by Vikas Bhatt on 16 Feb 2009

....I can't imagine what this country will suffer if corruptr and morally depraved like Pawar or Mulayam become PM. If SP gets a PM, then this country will becoem the next Pakistan with themlikes of SIMI, Shahabuddin and IM running freely without fear of law and order. There will be terrorist schools in every city. If Pawar comes in builders and alochohol industries and mafia will run over middle class lives and Dawood's hold on real estate will get that much easier!

SP will not oppose Pawar as PM: Amar Singh by Mike Vig on 16 Feb 2009

If there is one character in politics that needs a boot, it’s Amar Singh. I have watched him for years, though mostly behind Amitabh Bachchan. I am not sure what else does he do, really. His politics in UP meant uplifting himself and his cronies. Shunted out of UP, finally, he is desperate to be in news all the time. Supporting centre was, obviosly, not in the national interest but to protect his boss against his unaccounted wealth. I wonder what he does for people or how he affords to import luxury cars as gifts. If we had a strong government, someone like him would be investigated and left to rot in jail for all the dirty politics he plays. The recent politics with Sunil Dutt’s family is another example where all he does is create mess and divisions between a brother and his sisters. I don’t mind if Bachchans want to keep him at his house but India can’t afford this corrupt man let lose.

He is media's creation by Vikram Gehlot on 16 Feb 2009

Dear Mike, you said it.Unfortunately, in our system, media gives such a great coverage to such characters that they sinerely feel they are good.

Offering moon by rammohan on 16 Feb 2009

Waht will happen to Manamohan Sighji. He already dumped him? Waht about the other ambitiuos leaders like Laloo, Paswan, Dewa Gouda. He might have offered all of them PM support too. Offering MOON is the best way to attract old politicians.

The way Pawar looks and talks and his unprincipled political career match, exactly, the state of the country, making him the most appropriate PM candidate.

Regional parties by H.Mehta on 15 Feb 2009

it is surprising that importance to regional party is given too much than necessaryand soregional party leaders sometimes support to one party and if they do not find good with it they will support to other party or leaders without thinking whether it is good in the national interest or not. It is better if people are educated to see the welfare of the whole country and persuade to vote in loksabha election only to natinal level party CONGRESS or BJP. Media also should take share to train the people to vote for national level parties.
