Lucknow Alleging discrimination against Brahmins in the Samajwadi Party, the national president of its women's wing, Ranjana Bajpai, quit the party to join the BSP.

"Ever since he became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1989, Mulayam Singh Yadav has alienated Brahmins from the political and social mainstream. Therefore, I have resigned from the primary membership of the SP and joined the BSP, which takes all sections of the society along," Bajpai told newspersons.

Bajpai also claimed that many senior leaders had parted ways with the SP in the recent past owing to the power wielded by party national general secretary Amar Singh.

"Socialism and Mualyam Singh Yadav have taken a backseat in the SP while Amar Singh enjoys all the importance," she alleged.

Bajpai, who had been denied the Lok Sabha ticket by the SP from Sitapur, said she had not made any demand while joining the BSP.

Several of her supporters also joined the BSP and Bajpai claimed that many more SP workers, including some office bearers of the women's wing, will soon follow suit.

Welcoming Bajpai to the party, state BSP president Swami Prasad Maurya said she has been made the party coordinator of eight Lok Sabha constituencies, including Sitapur, Hardoi, Lakhimpur, Mohanlalganj, Mishrik, Dhaurara, Allahabad city and Fatehpur for the coming elections.
