Interestingly, while the Indian golfing fraternity is now looking forward to how the 29-year-old Kolkatan prepares for the difficult European Tour, Chowrasia has decided to get into serious consultations with India’s stalwart Arjun Atwal.
After bagging the Indian Open crown against all odds on February 10, Chowrasia earned the ticket to participate in the European Tour over the next three-year period. And the shy golfer has decided to take tips from Atwal on how to pick-and-choose which tournaments to take up in the long, gruelling European Tour.
Speaking to The Indian Express after returning from Delhi following the Indian Open win last month, Chowrasia spelt out the need to seek advice from Atwal, considering the latter is the only current Indian golfer on the world stage who can provide invaluable inputs on how to go about selecting the right courses during the three-year-long tournament.
“The European Tour is something completely different. It’s not like just another tournament. You have to pace yourself for challenges in the long run, on a consistent basis. There are hugely varying tournaments one has to get used to, and you need different techniques for handling the different conditions. For me, it will be ideal to sit with Atwal and plan out which tournaments to pick and participate in,” explained Chowrasia, who shares an excellent rapport with Atwal.
The young golfer, literally brought up on the Royal Calcutta Golf Club’s (RCGC) course, went on to explain that the key for him in the European Tour is to pick exactly which tournaments to go for and which ones to forgo.
“A newcomer on the European Tour like me cannot afford to play in each and every meet. I have to carefully figure out which tournaments to pick, taking into consideration the conditions. Say, I just cannot take up an event where the weather conditions will be extremely cold or breezy. I have to choose the venues which will be less difficult for me. Atwal is the best person in this case to ask for advice. He can help me chalk things out for the European Tour,” he said.
