Sachin tendulkar

New Delhi In a bid to honour the courage and sacrifice of National Security Guard commandos during the Mumbai terror attacks, Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh spent a day at the NSG headquarters at Manesar near Gurgaon (Haryana).

During their stay, Tendulkar and Harbhajan also tried their hand at the tough 26 obstacle training course of the commandos, which includes jumping from heights, climbing heights, running through large distances etc.

The cricketers also witnessed the Anti Terrorist Conditioning Course, which the commandos undergo in almost real life terror situations, complete with fire, smoke and live bullets.

The duo also interacted with the commandos who participated in the 26/11 Mumbai terror operation. During an interaction with the commandos, an emotional Tendulkar said, "Without a doubt it's you guys who are the real heroes, we just play cricket, you play with your life so that we are secure, I salute and your families because they have an important role in your sacrifice."

"It's truly an honour for both of us to be here and see what all of you are doing. Your hard work and contribution to the nation can never be compared with that of an actor or a sportsman. Although we always give our best to keep the nation flag high but our contribution in front of yours is much less in comparison to your contribution to our Nation. We are the role models for many people but we are proud to say that you are our role models."

During their visit at NSG headquarters, Tendulkar and Harbhajan also spent some time with the wife and children of Late Havaldar Gajendra Singh and the parents of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the two NSG commandos who lost their lives in the Mumbai siege.

The two cricketers made their way to meet Sandeep's parents who were also present at the NSG headquarters at the same time. Sachin offered his condolences to Sandeep's father and said, "You are a brave man, and your sacrifice supreme".

Harbhajan saluted the commandos and said, "I always wanted to serve the nation like a solider does, like you all do. But I suppose, I never had that kind of passion. As Sachin said we can't even think of comparing ourselves with you all. I think you guys are the real heroes. I just want to stand-up and salute all of you. I want to say a big thanks to all of you and your family for protecting us."

comments by shrinivas on 27 Jan 2009

This is my comment to all those who commented for the said article. The history is evident that in Indians have very short memory and especially for the the sacrifices of the armed forces .. who cares? its very easy to say thanks and let me tell you that after few months people will forget who is karkare and what is NSG? thanks to media that at least it is making people aware of the roles of the forces and their sacrifices time to time to the people of our country. But what about the families left behind? what is their fate? have you seen the Movie Border which has reflected the fate of the families of the soldiers. Oflate parents are not advising their children not to join forces because our country is thankless.. have you ever seen a soldier travelling on emergency leave in third class compartment throughout near the bathroom space? this is what we can offer to our soldier.. its really frustrating. People need forces only when there is a fear of getting killed by enemy.. Jai hind..

salutations for our armed forces. by vinod.Suvarna on 26 Jan 2009

sachin and harbhajan have showed the same emotions towards the nsg commandoes what every indian feels in their hearts.

Sachin, Bhajji - empty talk by Ron on 26 Jan 2009

Indian cricketers are experts in empty talk. If BCCI were to announce that the 10 percent of the players annual fee will be donated to the NSG heroes then these very cricketers will protest and block the move.

This was an excellent gesture by Menon on 26 Jan 2009

Friends, what I feel is both Sachin and Bhajji did is right. At least they had that courtesy to share the feelings. Am sure when the team wins in Cricket, we call them Heros. LIke Schin and Bhajji, when they saw what the cammandos are doing they realised. How many of us know what the Cammandoes undergo. How many of us consoled Sandeep's parents. Sometimes, its not the money that counts always. Even few words from the heart gives much relief than getting money. In fact I feel they did the right thing. Our NSG's salute their superiors and am sure first time some one might have saluted them from the citizens of India.

Donto criticise by sms kumar on 26 Jan 2009

if you review the messages everyone has criticised sachin and harbhajan that is totally nonsense. How you know he has not donated money for the Bombay victims. You want sachin and harbajan to display a board that he has donated to victims? Please INDIANS try to stop criticising others. You should think what you have did for this NATION.Please my freind try your level best to help others.

Thanks to NSG..... by arun on 26 Jan 2009

It was cent percent right =, what sachin

Stop this by Ces on 26 Jan 2009

What is all this nonsense? Yes two cricketers went to vist the NSG commandos and shared a day with them. What's wrong in that? Yes these two earn a lot of money, but whether they want to donate some of it or keep it all for themselves is rightfully their choice. Who are we to question that? We are all so good at questioning some one else, what about some introsception? What does each one of us do? Have we donated a percentage of what we earn? I don't think Sachin was pretending his feelings... and it is absolutely wrong to question his emotions. We have seen it often on the cricket field. Don't know a lot about the money he earns, but I for one will never doubt that Sachins heart is in the right place - beating for his loved ones and his country. It's time to place ours right as well.

SAchin Visist to NSG by Niar Siddiqui on 26 Jan 2009

Good PR campaign to get eyeballs. If they are serious about NSg contribution, why dont they make donation for support of NSG families who loose their beloved ones in action.

Sachin, Bhajji say thanks to NSG commandos by Ramesh on 25 Jan 2009

I think it is very gracious of Sachin and Harbhajan to go and spend a day with the NSG commandos and thank them personally for their sacrifice. We need more such acts from not just celebrities but from everyone. Such folks and their families who sacrifice their lives to protect us should be at least thanked to show them that we all care.

nsg commandos by chanakya on 25 Jan 2009

it is a shame on us here are two great sportsmen of the country paying homage to these brave commandos and we dont believe them , if you are thief every body is a thief great work by sachin and bhajji Indian team has donated money to the cause of Commandos it was not a drama but true patriotism

Sachin and NSG by Naveed on 25 Jan 2009

Crocodile tears are not enough......Sachin, you make crores, why can't you pay a small part of your not so hard earned money to the family members of these brave soldiers? Look at Steve Waugh, Imran Khan and scores of tennis players who pledge most of their earnings to the noble causes. Your small contribution to the victim families would've much greater than your mere salute to these heroes.

Sachin Sincere Tendukar by Harshal on 25 Jan 2009

Sachin is beyond all small things. We have watched him live since he was child. It is not without reason when mothers feel that their son should be like Sachin, not because of his cricketing abilities but because of his humility and sincerity. We all know when he says something, it is from his heart and not a rehearsed one.As for the benefit match, I think it is great idea, and I think it should be in Wankhede or Brabourne.

Sachin by VJ on 25 Jan 2009

In response to Shameless......What is so unsecular about it? Do you even understand the meaning of the word secular? Secularism means separation of State and Religion. It does not mean apeasing to Muslims. As a matter of fact, if you listen to any interview with a Pakistani cricketer, he can not even speak two sentences without saying Insa-Allah or Masha-Allah! Now that is unsecular - mixing cricket and religion.

a few things that money can't buy by kp on 25 Jan 2009

Why the hell we have so many people in our country who always weigh respect/appreciation in terms of money. After every tragedy you can see the people who claim to have lost a loved one and still haggling for compensation. Making the amount a prestige issue and what not. It will be more graceful to just accept the sympathy without peeing into your sympathizer's pockets and trying to figure how much you can extract out of them. And just for the sake of argument Sachin and Harbhajan took off for one whole day probably for this activity and their time is money. So don't forget that either if your mind is obsessed with calculating. I bet you wouldn't have waited as much as half an hour to respect these martyrs. But yeah coming online and mud-slinging is way too easier so that's what you are up to. Grow up guys....

congrats by M A Basheer on 25 Jan 2009

Congrats Sachin and Harbajan. Long live the Indian Republic and say God save India. God we pray to You to be with our Commandos' in all the ardous duties they perform to save our mother land

Sachin by Shajinair on 25 Jan 2009

Why should we give importance to such undeserved Sachin or Bhajji? What is the contribution to our nation and its citizens? They play cricket well and enjoy lavish living and making money for their own and not for others and our country. Who wants their saluts? Let them enjoy their life. In the real sense, these guys are utmost selfish, never help others, no patriotism, no charity nothing of that kind. Don't give them any more importance, they are idiots and useless.

Salute to Sachin for his time and efforts by Sudarshan Agrawal on 25 Jan 2009

I am apalled to read the comments from few people. First of all, does any one know how much they have already donated? Some one wants to salute England team because they came here to play and donated part of their earnings but nobody made efforts to check how much Indian players donated? In fact Sachin and Harbhajan did not politican's job, it is you people who did this politician's job. Secondly, why do you want to measure everything in terms of money? Do you want to say that by giving them money, their family member's death will be compensated? It is a very cheap mentality. Do not measure their sacrifices in terms of money. Please ask yourself are you willing to accept any money if any of your family member dies? Shame on you. Have some sense. Do not open your mouth unnecessarily and show the world that you are idiots. Learn to praise good work of others. I hope that god give you better sense.

Thanks by Romesh on 25 Jan 2009

We must appreciate their gesture. Those who are criticizing must understand that money is not everything.NO doubt it is important. Both of these could have eraned lakhs of rupees in the same time had they made themselves available for opening of a showroom or launching an Audio -video for an upcoming film. Thanks. Long live India.

Sachin Drama Tendulakr by Dinesh on 25 Jan 2009

Instead of tall tales, they could have donated some fund for NSG cammandos relief. That money would have been used for education of martyrs children or even to buy latest equipment for commandos. Shame on you sachin and bhajji for just using commandoes and just talks to show your patritriosm.

Donation to NSG. by Ram Nath Babu on 27 Jan 2009

BY the way, Mr. Dinesh, how much you have donated to NSG commandos relief fund? Please provide me with the address at which we should send cheque. The proud patriotic you are, unlike the shameless crickers, I am sure, you have already contribnted to the cause, and you must be having the address at chiwh donations are to be sent. Kindly provide it to me.

Sachin bhajji salute NSG by Zeeshan on 26 Jan 2009

One aspect is sachin n bhajji at least found sometime to have a word with NSG. What about others? Another aspect is our cricketing idols are multi millionairers and billionaires. But the irony is they dont have courage to give atleast a good amount of money to the brave martyres. They give only floral and wordy tributes. But India is Great. Jaihind.

Why Charity? Why not a structured Policy by Astrix on 26 Jan 2009

Why do our NSG commandos have to live on charity? YOu are making there service sound so low by asking for charity for these commandos. By the way why do you expect that players should donate there earnings for all causes. They are working as all of us. Why are you not saying the same for a business man or an industrialist or a politician or a civil servant or yourself for that matter????????

Sachin, Bhajji say thanks to NSG commandos by Suresh Rao on 26 Jan 2009

It is completly in tune with Sachins character. Do you remember his drama about Schumaker gifting him a Ferari car ? (Gifts are exempted from Import duty as they are FOC , Free of cost) seeking exemption from paying Octroi for the same car , and seeking reimbursement of medical expenses from BCCI for his surgery he underwent in SouthAfrica . All this when he was earning Rs 25 crores per year. Hence instead of calling you Sachin , I think that you should be more appropriately be called Jhootout

What kinda heroes? by above and beyond on 26 Jan 2009

Couldn't agree more with Dinesh's views. Mere talking is not good enough. When England team donated part of their match fee why can't our cricket heroes do something like that? Sachin could learn a thing or two about these things from Mr. Dhoni?

Sachin contributes, but does not want any advertisement by Ashwin on 26 Jan 2009

Hello All,Sachin is not the person who is looking for an advertisement for all his helps towards the society. I am sure that he would have contributed something to NSG. He really has the feeling that 'I AM INDIAN'.

Ask not what have they done... by Sandeep R. on 25 Jan 2009

How much have you donated? How have you shown your patriotism? What is your contribution to build this nation? I bet, zero.

houw much u paid ? by raj on 25 Jan 2009

how much u donated ?..they are all paying tax...if the some % of our tax is used for such purpuses then its enough ...

Sachin is great by Anupam on 25 Jan 2009

Dinesh,It appears as if you are unaware that the maestro, Sachin, doesn't publicize the donations he makes. FYI, he is financing an orphanage etc in his personal capacity. Though he didn't pulicize it or likes to talk about it but it's still out because the press these days tries to make everything sensational. You

Sachin and NSG by Ashok Mehdiratta on 25 Jan 2009

Dinesh,I think you belong to a creed of people who believe in showing off like our leaders who want their faces to be on TV when ever they go to a Army Unit or to to meet a martyr's family.Let me assure you that contributions to an army unit is not acceptable.Army does not take any financial help from any individual. It has sufficient funds to look after its soldiers and dependents.I wish you had written to Govt to buy equipment for Army.Your comments are undesirable and show jealousy and hate.

By these words it is sure Sachin and Harbhajan will join BJP by Shameless Indian Secular Hindu on 25 Jan 2009

These words sound very unsecular and UPA and secular forces must get together to counter them. These words sound as both these players will join BJP.

What's wrong with it? by Sickuliar muslim on 26 Jan 2009

BJP is not a terrorist party and it does not take bullets and grenades for jihad on name of allah, so what is wrong with Tendulkar and Bhajji joining BJP. It must be remembered that BJP is no different then congress in offering good corruption free governance for Indians. They could not take the war to pakistan after kargil and parliament attack! They were hiding behind NDA agenda on Babri Issue. I guess cheap congress or BJP, what difference does it make?

need check up????? by abbas ali on 26 Jan 2009

hey-do you need check up???What so wrong in sachin did?Insane people need a psychiatrist!!!

you suckers by monty on 26 Jan 2009

Are you a Indian or pakistani. The comments written by you are a shame on being indian. when it comes to nation no politicla or religion can seprate the spirit of being indian, i feel ashemed for you being writing like this. all the NSG police or defence forces need is support of civilians friends other wise no body decide to get killed on its own learn the spirit from all of them even sachin and bhaji do the same way wheather against terrorist or opponent team the passion of being indian leads us to victory. shame on you people like you suck INDIA. but you wll get out numbered and the spiri of INDIA will always be alive. JAI HInd.

Shamefully Shameless by VJ on 25 Jan 2009

Shameless, can you explain what is so unsecular about it? Do you even understand the meaning of the word? Secularism means separation of State and Religion. It does not mean apeasing to Muslims. A pakistani cricketer, during an interview can not talk even two sentence without uttering Insa Allah or Masha Allah. Mixing Religion with Cricket - Now that is unsecular.

Re-By these words... join BJP by Raj on 25 Jan 2009

Devil's incarnation. Why is this guys comments published in the media. This SIS (or ISI) is ful of venom of hate. His neighbors should take him to some mental hosiptal.

Great reply by Dee on 25 Jan 2009

Great reply to shameless not-so-Indian people within country. If I will write names, they will issue a Fatwa, what else can they do except politics and killings??

Sachin, Bhajji say thanks to NSG commndos by Ranjeet Powar on 25 Jan 2009

They are talking like politicians. What have they done for the country? No doubt they are the best players in cricket but beyond cricket what have they done, just after money. They have time to do advertisement where they can earn maximum cash but they can't organise one match for the benifit of HEROS of 26/11. Hats off to England team, not only they agreed to play in India but they donated part of their earnings from the first test. Anyway respect has to come from the bottom of the heart.

Sachin by Ram Nath Babu on 27 Jan 2009

Sachin

Why are you so cynical? by Sandeep R. on 25 Jan 2009

What's your problem? Why are you so cynical? Unfortunately, there are few like you who just cannot appreciate anything native. Can we know, what have YOU done for our motherland before asking others?

before asking them ask your self what you have done by shetty on 25 Jan 2009

Before asking what they have done for this country ask your self what you have done? how much tax you paid? how many days you worked for free? how much you donated? if you are so clear in your intention then only you can talk. its easy for Anyone, tom dick and harry for cheap talk.

Amen by Deven on 24 Jan 2009

Hats off to both of you and i hope all others appreciate what our armed forces, and other law enforcement officals do for our country and the sacrifices they and their families make in order to keep the country safe and let everybody else live their lives without worrying aobut the avrious threats the country has right now. I also pray for them and their families and would like everybody to join me in my prayers for them. In addition i would like to request the politicians to toe their lines and do some good work for the country and bring the culprits to justice.

Can not they donate 10 percent of their earnings to the martyrs families? Just saluting by only 2 ? by gary on 24 Jan 2009

They are not going to be poor if cricketers or Indian cricket board donate 10 percent income of cricketers to a fund for families of martyrs.

charity begins at our own homes by trupti_inlaw on 27 Jan 2009

instead of judging others on whta charity they should do, u start thinking of your own actions towards charity.

Look who's talking by Shutup_Gary on 26 Jan 2009

And how much have you donated, Mr Gary? Even you won't be poor by donating 10% of your income. Put your money where your mouth is. Don't under-estimate the impact of sports stars meeting with the NSG commandos. Quite often the NSG folks work in isolation and so often there is a tendency to feel that they are doing a thankless job. These moments with celebrities help them feel that their contributions are not forgotten. Basically it is a morale-booster for them. What the media project is an entirely different story, of course.Besides guys like Sachin don't like to talk about the charities they are involved in. So just because you may not know about it, does not mean he is not philanthropic.

reply by Abhishek Ranjan on 25 Jan 2009

When Narendra Modi offered money to slain ATS chief's family, then you said, it was a cheap gesture, why wouldn't that be a cheap gesture now? Money doesn't matter always, especially in these situations, their presence showed more than any amount of money can show.

they did lot of charity work by naveen on 25 Jan 2009

They always give lot of money to charities and sachin is running charity school and other stuff for many years. But it is indian culture not to tell what kind of help they are doing.

reply by sanjeev on 25 Jan 2009

money always dosen't matter. and who knows how much these cricketers have donated in the past. sachin himself is a hero and he do not need to prove himself on every occasion.
