Kolkata, June 30 An employee of a reputed private hospital not only lost his job but was also arrested after he tried to commit suicide inside the hospital on Monday.

Pulin Gorai and five others were served a suspension notice by the hospital a few days ago and they had been staging dharna under the banner of a trade union at the gates of the hospital.

According to the police: “Around noon today, Gorai was protesting at the hospital gates when his father handed him his termination letter.”

Gorai quietly left the dharna site and went inside the hospital building to meet the CEO of the hospital. He poured kerosene oil on his body and then tried to set himself on fire. But the security guards posted in the hospital stopped him from doing so.

However, he took out a blade from his pocket and slashed his wrist. He was admitted to the same hospital, the police said.

The police have registered a case of attempt to suicide against Gorai. The hospital authorities refused to comment on the matter.
