Mumbai, March 5: Actors Salman and Sohail Khan and Suneil Shetty on Tuesday joined a growing list of Bollywood personalities in opposing police ban on MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who had targeted North Indians, from going public with his speech.

The actors expressed their support to the signature campaign being held by MNS to oppose the gag order imposed on Raj by the city police preventing him from holding public rallies and press conferences.

"Salman, Sohail and their father Salim Khan are among those who have expressed their support by sending us letters," MNS spokesperson Shishir Parkar said.

Actors Nana Patekar and Shreyas Talpade have already opposed the gag orders.

Personalities from the world of Marathi literature, theatre and films have also come out in support of Raj.

Parkar claimed MNS had collected over ten lakh signatures in support of the party chief during a signature rally being conducted in Maharashtra.

Raj had made inflammatory statements against members of North Indian community which resulted in violence against them across the state last month.

The police had imposed the order on February 11, which was later extended till March 3, and was upheld by the Bombay High Court.

A show cause notice was served to Thackeray, who is now in Pune, by the police asking him why the gag order against him should not be extended.

CONFINE YOURSELVES TO ACTING, ALL YOU VILLAINS OF THIS FASCIST DRAMA by HUM HINDUSTANI on 07 Mar 2008

Who are these Salmans, Sohails and Suneils (the English versions of Tom, Dick and Harry) to put their signatures of approval on what the Thackerays are saying and doing? To the tens of millions of Indians, Bal Thackeray, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray are nothing but a motley group of semi-literate, empty-headed goondas who have become a law unto themselves, are habitual offenders and who are making ass of the law while the spineless and Hijra sarkars in the State and Central, home ministries and the police just sit back and watch while they play havoc with the economy and unity of the country and the lives and sentiments of millions of human beings. In all these years they have incited and have been involved in countless number of incidents of violence, intimidation, arson, mayhem and murder. And with that they have violated so many Central and State laws for so long that it is time the the mass media and the courts took over the role of the guardians of the nation’s conscience and safeguard the right to life, liberty, property and movement enshrined in our Constitution which is above all these Salmans,Sohails and Suneils. It is time the media takes the role of campaigners against these goondas and the courts order that both the State and Central Government authorities visit these goondas and provide the courts with a comprehensive report on the total violations that have taken place in the country due to these three goondas in all these years. The courts must find where the fault lies and should not fear to name names of all those who are hand in glove with these three goondas and also tell everyone that there will be no compromise with the laws of the land, the Constitution and the human rights of people.

devils alternative by vishal on 06 Mar 2008

Ofcourse they are coming out in support of these Goondas. What is the alternative ? Say no to them and get beaten ? Get their movies disrupted ? Have their residences and offices looted ? MNS is collecting signatures purely because of the muscle power it threatens to project on those who don't fall in line. Poor Salman, Nana, Sunil etc ..a true catch 22 situation for them. If they refuse to sign the petition, they risk being manhandled by MNS goons and if they do, they risk the north boycoting their movies and hurt their sellability. tsk tsk tsk

About support for Raj Thackeray by sam on 05 Mar 2008

I wonder what was the return promised. So a bunch of nut case film stars signed up. I can get a bum in the corner of the street sign anything I want if I buy him a meal. That makes no difference. United we stand, divided we fall. Is it that hard to understand ? Guess it is. Look at the way small countries are being bullied and the respect bigger nations get. The difference... they are too big to be bullied. Need I say more ? This applies to all tom, dick harry and Raj who want to run off and start their own island.

gag order for raj thackeray by N.Sivsubramanian on 05 Mar 2008

the gag order should continue for an indefiniteperiod, until mr thackeray expressed his 'unconditional apology' through the press and by bulletins to the public and govt. the state of maharashtra does not belong to any 'individual' or 'group of individuals' or any political party.it is an 'integral part of indian union' and every citizen of this country has a right to visit or live and work in mumbai like any other place in the country, as guaranteed by the constitution of india. shiv sena and mns which are regional and communal parties should be banned by the govt in total for both local and parliamentary elections. so also the arrogant and militant DMK, AIDMK, MDMK etc are to be banned and de recognized by govt and CEC.

Maintain ban on Raj . by Satindar Sangre on 05 Mar 2008

Who are these guys from Bollywood who pretend to understand everything. They are either trying to please MNS and Shivena to further their own interests or they don't understand the gravity of the situation. Let them not play intellectuals or statesmen which they are not. Ban on Raj and MNS must be maintained . This is the only right thing that has happened at long last.

whats the fuss about Signature campaign by sri on 05 Mar 2008

If Salman, sohail, nana etc didn't sign the signature campaign, MNS supporters (aka Goons) would have targetted them just like they targetted Amitab. Its the same old mentality of fear "sign karne mein kya jatha hein".
