Chandigarh, March 6 Theatre Age, an NGO taking care of underprivileged children, has received a unique gift. A city resident donated 450 vinyl records to the NGO. The proceeds collected from selling these records will be used for the welfare of children. The collection includes records of My Fair Lady, Best of Abba, Romeo and Juliet, Johnny Matis’ All Time Greatest to K L Sehgal, Ravi Shanker, Bhim Sen Joshi and Allah Rakha Khan.

The good Samaritan is a housewife who goes by the name of Manmohan Singh. She said the records had been collected by her sons and husband over a period of time. “My family was fond of classics so we had a large collection. We decided to donate a part of it to the NGO. They are free to do whatever they want with these,” she said.

The NGO, run by Zulfiqar Khan, at Government High School Sector 24 supports students by collecting raddi from different households and selling it.

The money collected is used for supporting the education of the children and providing them with other essentials. Some of the students support themselves and their families by working as rag pickers and shoeshine boys.

At the NGO, the students are taught acting, dancing, etc, and have performed with great success at different places. Each student has a heart-warming story to narrate of the struggles that they seen in their short life.

Zulfiqar is now waiting for some music lovers who would buy the records and help a child.
