Pune, July 31 The Marathi literary meet at San Francisco will be treated as World Marathi literary meet and not official Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan. The official meet will be held in the country and dates will be decided soon.

It is now clear that the meet at San Francisco will be arranged by Bay Area Maharashtra Mandal (BAMM) and not by Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal (ABMSM), which organises official Marathi Sahitya Sammelan.

“Though the meet will not be official, as Bay Area Maharashtra Mandal has asked for the help, ABMSM has decided to support the meet at San Francisco,” said Madhavi Vaidya, member of ABMSM.

Vaidya also clarified that the official sammelan was not cancelled. "Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan will take place in 2009 and dates will be finalised afterwards," she said.

Meanwhile, D M Mirasdar, president of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad in a letter has welcomed the move to name the meet at San Francisco as World Marathi Meet.

"The meet at San Francisco can be held in February and the members will go to the US on their own. The BAMM will not sponsor them," he has clarified in the letter.
