Chennai, February 9: Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev expressed confidence that tennis star Sania Mirza ‘will soon come back to play in the country’ after she opted out of the Bangalore WTA event scheduled in March.

Last week Sania pulled out of the event to avoid being dragged into any fresh controversy.

Kapil said, "sportspersons are generally emotional. She must have spoken about her pullout in the heat of the moment. I will give her time to think again."

"She loves India, a reason which I believe would make her come back to play the game in her country," Kapil said on the sidelines of a seminar.

On the incident of egg-throwing on Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan in Australia, Kapil said it was better to focus on the game.

"Lets talk about cricket and kill the negative stories. Let us only promote the game," he said.

He preferred to stay off any team-selection related issues of the BCCI, saying he was ‘not authorised to speak on it’.
