New Delhi, March 19: Indian national Sarabjit Singh, on death row in Pakistan, on Wednesday got a reprieve as his execution was stayed till April 30.

Giving this information in the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the government was continuing efforts to save him.

Mukherjee said the Indian High Commission in Islamabad has been informed by Pakistan Foreign Office that President Pervez Musharraf has stayed the execution of Sarabjit Singh by a month, till April 30.

Sarabjit, who has been accused of involvement in bomb blasts, was to be hanged on April 1.

"Government of India is continuing its efforts to save the life of Sarabjit Singh. We have achieved partial success and we will continue to carry on our efforts," Mukherjee said.

Sarabjit's daughter says she will seek pardon for him

Daughter of Sarabjit Singh, whose execution has been stayed by a month in Pakistan, on Wednesday said she would utilise the time to help get a pardon for her father lodged in a Lahore jail.

Somewhat relieved after Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf stayed the hanging scheduled for April 1, Swapandeep, a teenager, said "I am hopeful that in the way they have delayed the punishment, my father will get pardon and he will return to us soon.

"First of all, we want visa (to go to Pakistan) so that we can do something on our own...and present whatever documents are there to prove my father's innocence," she was quoted as saying.

Swapandeep, who had on Tuesday made a fervent appeal to Pakistani authorities for his release, said she would utilize the month's time to seek pardon for him from Musharraf.

Sarabjit was sentenced to death for alleged involvement in the 1990 bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that claimed 14 lives.
