Scholars deliberate on threats of global warming

Chandigarh, January 27 An interactive session on Global Warming and Climatic Changes was organised by the Association of British Scholars, Chandigarh Chapter, at Vivek High School.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr G S Gujral, Head, Science (India), British Council, New Delhi, said, “Climate change is one of the greatest threats to our planets today. It is global and not a local issue and it is today’s problem and not tomorrow’s.”

Elaborating on the plan of action, he informed that the council is in the process of engaging

Indians and UK scientists in low carbon technologies and energy forms, etc.

More than 50 students from various schools participated in the debate, sharing their views on global warming.

A S Dogra, IFS (retd), Principal Chief Conservation of Forests, Punjab said, “The earth is like our mother, the water is like father and air we breath is like our guide and it is very unfortunate that today we are not respecting any of these entities.”

“An Inconvenient Truth”, a film by Al Gore, a Nobel Award winner, was also screened.

The movie was screened by Prof A D Ahluwalia, Department of Geology, PU, Member, Committee on International Year of Planet Earth.
