Ludhiana, January 22 With the announcement of date-sheet for annual examination, the school students have started preparing for the examinations. Punjab School Education Board, Mohali, is going to conduct class VIIIth and XIIth examinations from March 1. The matric examinations however will start on March 14. Not only students, but schools too have arranged special classes for them.

At R.S. Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, special classes started after December test. M.L. Kalra, the school principal, said, “To fine-tune the students, we have started special classes of all subjects. We have categorised students in small groups for self study. In each group, there are three students, which include one intelligent student and two average students. This way, each intelligent child helps the average ones in learning and understanding concepts which are not clear to them.

At Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, and Rajindera Model Senior Secondary School, Haibowal also, special classes of students are being held. Rajinder Sharma, director of Everest School, said, “To encourage the weak students, every year we arrange special classes. This year also we are doing it.”

It was observed that students at city’s government schools are also busy in preparing for the annual examinations. At Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU, the students were seen busy in revising their syllabus. While some students have made their own groups for studying together.

Amandeep Kaur, a Xth class student, said, “We are three friends and every day we study together in the evening for two hours. We have revised our syllabus of all subjects, except that of mathematics. But within two weeks that too will be over.”

Dr Rajiv Gupta, clinical psychiatrist, has some advise to offer to the students preparing for examinations. “Students should avoid junk food and strong tea or coffee as it makes the mind restless. They should have adequate sleep i.e. at least for six hours. To have nutritious diet full of vitamines, they shall take lots of fruits and dry fruits. Students shall not study what they had not done earlier. Rather they should revise important questions again and again. And parents should refrain from being critical of their wards and should not compare them with others unnecessasarily.”
