Greater NOIDA, February 26 A 32-year-old woman, a teacher at a primary school in Greater Noida, committed suicide at her residence in the colony of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) near Dadri on Monday night. Kiran, wife of Gyanendra Kumar, who is an assistant engineer with the NTPC, hanged herself from the ceiling fan with a chunni.

Kiran, from Salarpur village in Noida, got married to Kumar around nine years ago and has three children. Police believe it could be a case of suicide due to stress and pressure due to a bad marriage. But no suicide note has been recovered from the house.

Police said they have interrogated the neighbours and according to the statements recorded there were frequent fights between the couple. “However, we are taking no chances and every angle is being investigated thoroughly,” said A K Vijeta, SP (Rural).

According to police, Kiran had been teaching at a private primary school in the Salarpur village for close to three years now and her fellow-teachers have said there was no work pressure.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and the police are waiting for the final report to establish the cause of death.
