Schools celebrate Lohri around bonfire warmth

Chandigarh, January 11 Lohri celebrations were held in educational institutes in the Tricity region.

Masters in Social Work, PU
The faculty members and students of Masters in Social Work, PU celebrated Lohri with children from the Kumhar Colony, enrolled at Vineet-25, a school run by Youth Technical training Society. A number of cultural activites were organised. The students performed a number of dances and songs. The MSW students also distributed sweets to the children.

DAV School, Mohali
Lohri celebrations were also held at D A V Public Senior Secondary School, Phase X. A dance competition was also held. Groundnuts, revri and other sweets were distributed. School principal Jaya Bhardwaj said that the festival provides an opportunity to strengthen our social ties.

Ashmah International
Lohri was celebrated at Ashmah International School campus in Mohali. A bonfire was organised in the school playground. Traditional sweets were also offered. Principal Rupinder Ghuman said that the festival was a potent cultural symbol of Punjabi community.

Dev Samaj School 21
The Principal, staff and NSS Volunteers of Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, Sector 21 celebrated Lohri with inmates of Old Age Home Sector 15, Bal Niketan, and inmates of the Mother Teresa Home in Sector 23. A number of gifts like woolen socks, warmers and notebooks were distributed to all the inmates. A cultural programme was also organised.

Shemrock School, Mansa Devi
Lohri was celebrated at Shemrock Smiles Preparatory School, Mansa Devi Complex on Friday. The school was decorated with phulkari dupattas. The students were dressed in traditional attire. A bonfire was organised. Headmistress Rambha Bakshi addressed the students.

KV, High Grounds
The students of Kendriya Vidyalaya High Grounds celebrated Lohri in the prayer ground on Friday. School principal S K Bhatia also attended the function. A cultural programme was organised by the primary section. The students were given groundnuts, popcorns and rewri.

Divya Public School, Sector 44
The staff students and principal of Divya Public School, Sector 44 celebrated lohri in the school premises on Friday. A cultural programme was also organised. The principal lighted a bonfire. Principal Rattan Singh spoke on the importance of the festival. Sweets were also distributed.

Sanjivini School, Sector 44
Students at Sanjivni School, Sector 44 celebrated Lohri on Friday. Nearly 40 students in the age group of 2-5 years participated in the function. Sweets were distributed to the students.

Saupin School, Mohali
Saupin’s School, Sector 70 celebrated Lohri by organising a ‘Sandwich Making’ competition in the school. Children from Classes I to VIII participated in the competition. A bonfire was also organised.

Shishu Niketan, Mansa Devi
Students of Shishu Niketan Public School, Mansa Devi Complex sang folk songs to celebrate the festival . A bonfire was also organised on the occasion.
