Schools, colleges across the city join in Republic Day celebrations

Chandigarh, January 27 Shishu Niketan
Republic Day was celebrated at Shishu Niketan Public School, Sector 43A, Chandigarh, with traditional zeal and fervour. Students were briefed on the relevance and importance of the day.

Bhavan Vidyalaya Sec 27,
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest D R Yadav, Joint Secretary, Regional Office, CBSE, Panchkula urged the students to emulate great leaders of the country with special emphasis on the armed forces.

Shem Rock School
The school was decorated in tri-colour and the national emblem. Tinu Jolly, Director, asked the children to pledge to be responsible citizen of the India since they are the future of our country.

DAV School, Mohali:
Enthusiasm marked the spirit of Republic Day at the school where principal Jaya Bhardwaj exhorted the students to devote themselves completely for the cause of country’s unity and integrity while performing in whichever field they chose after studies.

Panjab University
Greetings, Guard of Honour, March Past, patriotic songs and performances by the students of Music Department, Ankur School, Panjab University, SGGS School Ratwara Sahib, Scouts and Guides and distribution of sweets and snacks formed the major part of the celebrations at Panjab University Campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti hoisted the national flag.
Addressing the gathering, Prof R C Sobti reminded every conscious Indian to look within and probe what more can be done so that the country scales new heights of glory. He called upon the gathering to rise in all earnestness to meet the challenges of time and prepare future generations to safeguard and uphold the high ideals set by the founders of Indian Constitution.
Dr Sobti congratulated Dr B N Goswami, former DUI of the varsity and Dr J S Chopra, on having been bestowed the Padam Bhushan. He also eulogized the services of Dr V K Anand, Librarian, Vijay Pal Singh, Chief of Security, Ashok Gautam, Security Officer and presented awards to four employees for their services.
The Vice-Chancellor gave a call for saving the environment by making the PU campus polythene, smoking, pollution and violence free. He also urged everyone to resolve issues by negotiations instead of protests for the sake of protests or raising issues for personal glorification.

GovtCcollege of Education-20
Republic Day celebrations were held with around 100 students and faculty members present on the occassion.
Speaking on the occassion, the principal, Dr Harsh Batra, pointed out the importance of celebrating such historic occassions to remind oneself of the duties each one had towards society and the nation.

Govt College for Girls, 42
Shashi Malik, principal of the college, hoisted the tri-colour on the college premises. She said our heads bow in reverence to all those who had drafted such a constitution for our motherland.

Republic Day was celebrated with great fervour and gaiety by the staff and students. Promila Kaushal, principal, hoisted the National Flag. She recalled the sacrifices of martyrs and inspired students to inculcate humane values.

DAV College, Sector 10
Sudesh Sharma, mother of martyr Capt Atul Sharma, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Late Capt Atul Sharma is an old boy of the college who later joined the 29th Rastriya Rifles J & K. On November 15, 2000 he laid his life down for the country, fighting terrorists. Principal S Marriya exhorted students to redeem their pledges towards the nation and re-dedicate themselves in its development.

Big FM interacts with war widows
A team from Big 92.7 FM celebrated Republic Day with war widows at Sainik Bhawan, Sector 21. The RJs, including Anubhav and Meenakshi, interacted with the widows. The station also organised a talk with the participants of Sa Re Ga Ma Little Champs.
