In the plan sent to Rodrigues, the department has given a list of activities to be organised in different schools in the city over the week. The proposed activities include story telling, visual effects and documentary films among others.
Talking about the proposal, Samwartak Singh, Director Public Instructions (Schools) said they are yet to receive approval from the Administrator. “We have sent the proposal and will announce the final dates only after getting approval from the Administration. The aim behind
organising this week is to instill good values among students. Being in an impressionable age, they can be moulded in whatever way one wants them to. Emphasis should thus, be on making them good human beings,” he said.
Under the programme, NGOs will be roped in to deliver lectures on ethics and principles. Schools will also organise moral activities in the morning assembly. “The students will also visit institutions like old age homes, slums and orphanages as part of the programme. Movies based on moral values will also be screened apart from arranging theme based competitions including poem recitation, slogan writing, quiz and others,” Singh said.
The schools too are keen to implement the programme. “We need to work on making our children an asset to the society. Programmes like these help in sensitising students about their social and moral responsibility,” said the principal of a government school.
