With more than 300 large-format visual images and 150 video clips and multimedia exhibits, the Indo-German exhibition aims to develop a scientific temper among students.
The Science Express offers free entry to all between 10 am to 5 pm till December 15.
The train was flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on October 30 in New Delhi and will cover 57 cities in the country. Of the total 16 coaches, 12 display science exhibits developed by Max Planck Society, Germany.
Students seem enthusiastic about the exhibition. “It’s an interesting way to learn scientific principles. Visual images and 3-D models make the complicated theories seem easy and completely different from classroom teaching,” said Sanjit Kashyap, a student of Bal Vidya Mandir, Charbagh.
Visitor turnout was low on the first day, though. Officials said invitations had been sent to schools and colleges in the city and they expect a heavy rush in the coming days. “Germany has a lot to offer in the field of science and research. We have some of the best institutes in the world but there is a decrease in the number of students opting for science. Students feel other fields, like business and engineering, are the more glamorous option,” said Andreas Klauke, Project Manager, Science Express.
“This unique exhibition is an attempt to reach more people and develop an interest for science among school and college students. We want them to pursue science research which is diminishing sharply,” he said
