Movenpick
Most 5-star hotels
Next time when you are at a five-star hotel, ask the over-friendly waiter for some Movenpick ice cream. You will not regret it. The latest bestseller on dessert menus, Movenpick is a yummy ice cream from Switzerland. Available in many flavours, like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, it comes in granular scoops that you just can’t have enough of. Their vanilla ice cream (they only use Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar) is out of the world; it could give a serious inferiority complex to our humble Vadilal version. Unless you have a serious aversion to the good things in life, Movenpick will, for sure, be your favourite this summer.

Wasabi and Green tea
Tetsuma, Near Radio Club, Colaba
The Japanese call it Wasabi Aisu. The horseradish paste or wasabi that imparts taste to sushi also makes for a really different ice cream. Chef James Biaka at Tetsuma serves generous helpings of this tangy ice cream. Of course, there aren’t many takers for it; Indians still find the concept of horseradish in ice cream weird. The fact is that it burns your tongue a bit but leaves a lasting taste. There are two categories of people who try it and often love it, food lovers and food writers. As for the Green tea ice cream or Matcha aisu kurimu, it is a popular dessert at most Japanese eating places.

Sandwich
Rustam’s, Churchgate
Tucked in a dilapidated building at Churchgate, Rustam’s is considered the oldest ice cream joint in Mumbai. A favourite with Sobo residents, it is a place where grandmothers meet, young mothers congregate with infants in prams and kids form friendships over some great biscuit ice cream—a block sandwiched between two wafers. It is also popularly known as Parsi auntywali ice cream. Mango, litchi, grape, almond, walnut, chocolate — there are almost 30 flavours to choose from. However, there is more to Rustam’s. If you prefer your ice-cream simple, you can go for a cone or even pack some for home.

Sweet red bean and Candied Sesame
Frangipani, Hilton Towers
Lotus seed, Candied sesame and Sweet red bean ice creams - just like the names suggest, are quite different from our local favourites at Baskin Robbins or Naturals. They are homemade and simply melt in your mouth without greasing your palette. Nice and milky, they taste like they have just been churned and presented to you at the table. But watch out, they melt really fast. So if you don’t eat them up quickly, you may have to drink them instead! These ice creams are not part of the regular menu at Frangipani, but you can order them nevertheless.
