It is again time for a fashion week, for a season of stilettos and satin. The previews of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2008 began on Wednesday, with designers Ashima-Leena and Kavita Bhartia showcasing their collections. The sneak peak tells us that it is going to be solid colors and drape-oriented yet fitted silhouettes. Both of them have travelled time — while Bhartia has drawn inspiration from everything Indian, be it royals, tribals or Pushkar, for her “Love International” line, Ashima and Leena have gone back to the opulent 1930s for their “Temp de Luxe”.

“My collection this season is going to be very Indian in inspiration and detailing,” says Bhartia, who has moved away from her billowing skirts. “It’s going to be more fitted and tightly draped, be it pants, skirts or jackets this season,” she adds. There is an abundance of royal blues and sober browns in ankle-length skirts and short skirts along with pants. The collection, largely in silks and chiffon, is also full of metallic work, with medallions and chains, apart from wooden beads and stones in the details. The high point of Bhartia’s collection is the use of scarves. Interestingly, there is also copious use of pleats.

Ashima-Leena’s collection, on the other hand, is mostly black and white, with wine motifs. “It’s opulence and luxury. The collection is very eveningwear, with smartly fitted dresses and gowns. There’s bling, but not the overpowering kind. It just adds to the dress,” says Ashima.

The collection is again full of drapes, with a heavy use of chiffon and satin and pure silk in jerseys. “It drapes like a dream,” smiles Leena. They’ve infused the dresses with motifs and combined them with dazzling bijoux (with lots of colourful Swarovski crystals), creating a smart contrast. It’s a Hollywood-fantasy-come-to-India collection.
