Chandigarh, November 09 Four days after a criminal case was lodged against the Managing Director of Maharaja City Rajbir Singh, the Punjab Police have slapped another criminal case against him on charges of cheating investors and violating the provisions of the Punjab Urban Development Authority Act.

Vinay Kumar, a Kurali resident, has alleged that Rajbir took an earnest money of nearly Rs 5.96 lakh from him for the transfer of Plot no 177 in Maharaja City in his name. Despite accepting the earnest money; Rajbir did not get the registered deed executed and even refused to return the earnest money, alleged Vinay in his complainant.

The police investigations also reveal that while Rajbir had got the approval-licence from the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) for Maharaja City on August 17, 2006, he had already entered into sale-agreements two to three months prior to the approval.

Station House Officer, Ropar, Sub-Inspector Sital Singh, said, “The Economic Offences Wing, investigating the matter, recommended the registration of a case, based on their inquiry on a particular complaint. We have, so far, registered two criminal cases against Rajbir, but more complaints are being investigated into by the Economic Offences wing”.

The first case was registered against Rajbir on the complaint of one Ajit Singh who alleged that Rajbir had not transferred a plot in Maharaja City in his name after having taken Rs 10.35 lakh for the same.

According to the Ropar police, they received a series of complaints against Rajbir alleging that he accepted money to the tune of lakhs of rupees from them in lieu of giving them plots in Maharaja City — an 18-acre plot on the Ropar-Morinda road.

Rajbir complains of chest pain, hospitalised

Ever since Rajbir Singh was arrested on November 5 and granted two days’ police custody by the Ropar court, his interrogations have been pending. The reason: Rajbir complained of severe chest pain late in the night and was taken to the Ropar Civil Hospital, where he was admitted for check up.

“He is complaining of persistent chest pain and is admitted in the hospital. After a lapse of two days, when we produced him again, he was remanded in judicial custody. He was, however, not taken to jail, as he again complained of chest pain and was sent back to the hospital, “ said SHO SI Sital Singh while adding that they will seek his production warrant in the second case on Monday. The complainants, meanwhile, allege that Rajbir has been in good health and is feigning illness to avoid police interrogation.
