While on March 26 the NRI groom was beaten up by the kin of the bride, today the boy didn’t turn up for his marriage at Suhaag Palace here. NRI groom Paramjit Singh Pannu from Canada, who hails from Bagga village in Nakodar, was to marry a Kartarpur-based girl. But yesterday, his first wife filed a dowry case against him at Zeera police station and he is absconding.

It was learnt that two days ago, relatives of Pannu’s first wife, Jatinder Pal Kaur, who was in Canada, told her parents about the marriage. She flew back to Punjab yesterday and took the help of the Lok Bhalai Party (LBP) to get Pannu booked. Jatinder also complained to the police that he demanded dowry from her and tortured her mentally. Her parents met Kapurthala SSP Rakesh Agarwal, who marked an inquiry to Kapurthala DSP Sukhdev Singh Chhina.

On the other hand, Pannu claimed that he has divorced Jatinder. “I have not divorced Paramjit. We got married in 2003 and have a daughter,” she said.

However, the police said Pannu had the ex parte divorce copy with him.

It also was learnt that parents of the bride have also lodged a complaint with the Kartarpur police, and Pannu has also been booked under sections 494 and 420 of the IPC. The match-maker and kin of Pannu have also been booked.
