Sector 17 set to don a new look post MC makeover

Chandigarh, February 20 The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is all set to start the upgradation and renovation of infrastructure in Sector 17 (A and B). After preparing the plan, MC officials are now awaiting approval from the administration to start the work. Rs 4.14 crore had been approved for the purpose in the last House meeting.

As per the proposal, the Municipal Corporation will construct four oval-shaped green patches, ramps for the convenience of differently-abled persons, install decorative lights and concrete benches with granite tops in the entire area. An amusement park with playing equipments has also been proposed. Besides, the fountains which otherwise are lying under neglected condition will also be renovated.

According to MC officials, the entire area will be developed on the pattern of Plaza area to attract tourists and visitors towards the Sector 17 (A and B), which otherwise lies totally neglected currently.

The Plaza area will be extended from General Post Office right up to the backside of CITCO building. The open space near the bridge will be used for the development of green space and amusement park for children. Besides, the area will be provided with new lights, sewerage system and concrete flooring.

As Sector 17 (A and B) lacks toilet facility, visitors often face troubles. Considering this, a proposal has been mooted to construct two toilet blocks on built operate and transfer basis.

“We are yet to receive the confirmation of minutes of the last House meeting and the Administrative approval. Most likely the work will start in April,” an official said.
