"Narayanan apprised the Cabinet of the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir," Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after the meeting.
Asked about steps taken by the Centre to defuse the crisis, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already taken the initiative by convening an all-party meeting to address the problem.
During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Narayanan had a meeting with Governor N N Vohra and it was decided to facilitate discussions with all groups protesting over the Amarnath land issue.
The NSA reviewed law and order, security, public distribution system and measures related to strengthening the administrative machinery.
Narayanan was accompanied by Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee H Upadhyay, Director of Intelligence Bureau P C Haldar and Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Sanjay Mitra.
Narayanan also met several leaders of state political parties.
