Ludhiana, January 24 Having burnt their fingers for their alleged laxity which led to a bomb blast in the Shingaar Cinema the last year, the Ludhiana police are exercising double caution as far as the security arrangements on the Republic Day are concerned.

The police have deployed three companies of the commandos in the various areas of the city to guard the city in view of any threat perception on the Republic Day. These three companies of the commandos are in addition to over 4,000-strong police force.

According to police sources, these commandos have been especially trained to meet any eventuality. The entire city has been divided into 12 sectors and a gazetted officer will supervise every sector.

Speaking to the Newsline, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)(Urban) RK Jaiswal said, “We are more vigilant this time in the wake of Shingaar blast and threat perception on the Republic Day.”

He said, “Though the entire city would be under the police scanner, our focus will be on the sensitive areas and the thoroughly visited public areas of the city. Special checking nakas have been set up in the various parts of the city and thorough checking of the vehicles and persons is being conducted. This will continue till the Republic Day.”

Besides, the SSP said that flag march by the police and the commandos has also been planned for the different areas of the city till the R-Day. “In this connection, the first flag march will be taken out in the Sarabha Nagar,” SSP Jaiswal said.

Ludhiana Range DIG Ishwar Singh said the other police districts including Khanna and Ludhiana rural (Jagraon), are also exercising caution. “In these police districts, though no commando companies have been deployed, their police have been asked to remain more vigilant,” DIG Ishwar Singh added.

CM to hoist flag in city Zonal Inspector General Sanjeev Kalra, Ludhiana range DIG Ishwar Singh, SSP (Urban) RK Jaiswal and other senior officers today visited the venue of the state level Republic Day function- the SCD Government College for Boys. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will hoist the national flag on January 26. The officers were seemingly looking satisfied with the security arrangements at the venue.
