Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that a revamp of the existing DSSSB, formed in 1996, will help in “enhancing efficiency and transparency” and the utilisation of the state-of-the-art techniques, including IT-enabled services. The Board will recommend suitable candidates within 180 days from the date of receipt of indent for recruitment to the vacant posts.
Dikshit said that the Board will continue to recruit for the 200 categories of group ‘B’ & ‘C’ posts. It was necessary to re-constitute the existing DSSSB as it was able to make recommendations for only 37 per cent of the vacancies requisitioned which resulted in a huge backlog.
Apart from this, the work of the Board has increased over the past 11 years or so. Outdated methods were used to test candidate’s knowledge and skills.
The new Board will have a chairman and two assistants who will help him in conducting examinations and other selections tests. The combined term of a member in case one becomes chairman will not exceed five years in the Board.
The chairman will function for a period of five years in the Board or till he/she attains 65 years of age whichever earlier. A Controller of Examinations will also be appointed who will be responsible for all matters relating to examinations such as preparation of confidential papers, registration of candidates, conduct of examinations, evaluation, publication of results and issue of results.
Apart from this the Secretary of the Board will report to the Chairman of the Board and exercise administrative and financial powers as head of the office and assist the chairman in the day-to-day functioning of the Board. The Secretary will also submit an annual performance report of the Board to the services department.
