Seminar on Indian ideas of freedom begins at PU

Chandigarh, February 21 A Three-day national seminar on “Indian Ideas of Freedom” was inaugurated by the UT administrator General S F Rodrigues(retd) at the ICCSR complex on Thursday.

The seminar was organised by the PU Department of Political Science, Panjab University under its UGC Special Assistance Programme in collaboration with the ICSSR Northwest Regional Centre.

Gen Rodrigues discussed the problems faced by the Indian education system. He also suggested measures to restructure the system. He said the universities and higher education institutions play an important role in guiding the national endeavour for bringing about social transformation and equality in society.

PU Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti highlighted the steps for reforming the academic processes and moulding the attitudes of the students for making them reap the benefits of freedom.

Prof M M Puri, Professor Emeritus and former PU Vice-Chancellor chaired the first session. Prof Javed Alam, CFIL made a presentation on the unfolding of freedom and equality in India.
