New Delhi, May 15 A 70-year-old man was murdered at his Janakpuri home today.

Police said the deceased, B D Sharma, was a retired employee of Air India. His body was discovered by his wife when she returned at 3.15 pm. His throat had been slit and the house ransacked.

Police officers said Sharma had retired from Air India ten years ago. He used to work as a transport manager.

Sharma’s elder brother, HC Sharma, said: “Today, Sharma’s wife Raksha had gone to a satsang in the locality. She had left at noon and when she returned, around 3.15 pm, two of the doors were open. She went inside to find his body in the room and the house ransacked,” said a senior police officer.

Before she fainted, she managed to dial 100.

Sharma was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said the body, which had multiple stab wounds, has been sent for postmortem.. According to Raksha, cash and goods worth around Rs 1 lakh is missing. So is some foreign currency.

Police said the entry, apparently, was friendly, as the locks had not been tampered with.

“The assailants seemed to know the house well, as the ransacking was not random. Only specific spots were targeted. They seemed to know exactly where to look,” said a senior police officer.

Sharad Aggarwal, DCP West, said Sharma’s uncle and a nephew have been detained for interrogation. “It is too early to declare them as suspects,” Aggarwal added.

The Sharmas reside at C-4/H-20 in Janakpuri. They have two sons, who are settled in the US. They have been informed about the murder and are on their way back, officers added.
