Sensex ends flat in volatile trade

Mumbai, January 9: The stock markets ended flat on Wednesday with the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex settling the day lower by nearly three points, after witnessing a new intra-day peak.

The Sensex, after touching an intra-day high of 21,113.13 points, rolled back to end 3.55 points lower at 20.869.78 over its previous close. The index also touched the day's low of 20,701.49 points.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty closed lower by 15.85 points at 6,272.00, after touching the day's high of 6,338.30 points and a low of 6,231.25.

The market remained volatile on brisk trading activity by buyers and sellers.
