The 26-year-old American is the winner of eight Grand Slam singles titles as well as an Olympic gold medal. She is currently ranked seventh on the WTA Tour.
Serena had pulled out of the Bangalore Open last year saying she was not feeling well at the time.
Officials of Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association, the hosts for the tournament, are sure Serena is going to turn up this year.
“Her office called and said she would like to come back to Bangalore as she missed coming here last year and would like to make up for that,” Tournament Director and KSLTA Secretary Sunder Raju told reporters.
Russian Vera Zvonareva has also confirmed her participation in the tournament. The 23-year-old from Moscow, who had reached a career high ranking of nine in 2004, is currently ranked 22th on the WTA Tour.
The Bangalore Open champion would take home USD 95,500 and 300 WTA points. The tournament was a Tier-III event with prize money of USD 175,000 last year and has been upgraded to a Tier-II event from this season.
Raju said CEO of the WTA Tour Larry Scott would visit Bangalore during the event.

It is good to hear, now Indians will have the chance to see half naked serena in action. She is a beast thatmost of us would like to put down. Hummmmmm. Sania Mirza should follow serena's method and dress like her and shrapova. THen she would get all the attention. Women tennis is surviving because of pretty girls dressing skimmpy and running around. That is about it, people don't watch it for the match, they watch it for the girls. Balgalore has the chance to see once the skimmpiest outfits and asgain she is a beats that turns you on.
Not not long ago, when quizzed if money was the factor in playing certain tournaments, she had the temerity to reply "No, I play the Australian Open too!" when the prize money was more than half a million dollars then!! Even Andre Agassi was shocked and declared "I hope the day never comes when I can treat such a large money so trivially" or something to that effect. Now that she has been eliminated from the Aussie open and is on the decline, she would play anywhere to pick up the 'odd cash' as she might put it.
Since Bangalore open is upgraded to Tier-II event, it should be renamed as India Open. Best wishes.
