Series of thefts catch UT police off-guard

Chandigarh, February 3 Against claims that Chandigarh Police personnel, posted particularly in the southern sub-division of the city, were making all efforts to curb the rising crime graph, as many as seven thefts were reported last night from areas under Sector 34, 36 and 39 police station.

Three cars, including a Maruti (HP-03-A-0002) belonging to a Sector 33 resident Aditya Kant, another bearing registration number HP-27-0627, belonging to a Sector 37 resident Om Prakash and the third car (CH-03-N-2508), belonging to a Sector 36 resident Minakshi, were stolen from outside their residences late last night. Thieves also took away batteries of three auto-rickshaws, parked outside the house of one Phool Chand, a Sector 52 resident.

Burglars also struck at house no. 3253 in Sector 37 D, from where they decamped with gold jewellery, Rs 32,000 in cash and household articles.

In all the cases, the city police have registered cases of theft and claim they had initiated investigations.
