Seven of family killed in mishap; 4 injured

Sangrur, February 22 Seven persons were killed and four others seriously injured when a car collided head-on with a truck last night near Channo village on the Sangrur-Patiala road, police said today. The deceased and injured include two women each.

Most of the deceased and injured of Duggan village near here were family members and were on their way for delivery of a pregnant family member Inderjit Kaur who was anaemic. Six, including two women, died on the spot, while the seventh, Raju, was declared brought dead at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.

Police said the deceased were identified as Inderjit Kaur, her husband Gurmail Singh, Sinder Kaur, Roop Singh, Sapinder Singh, driver Jaswinder Singh and Raju. The injured were identified as Lila Singh, Gulal Singh, Mishro and Charanjit Kaur. Police have registered a case against truck driver Nirbhai Singh, a resident of Dirba village, for causing death by rash and negligent driving.
